Hi guys

My female beardie Gizmo is about 1 1/5 yrs old, 16" long and i have had her for nearly 1 month. I seemed to have had nothing but trouble with them, and have grown so attached to them.

Anyway, on the 16th May she laid a clutch of 22 fertile eggs, which are being incubated in the local reptile store. On the 19th May i took her and the male to get a check up at the reptile vets, and they were both given a clean bill of health. :D

She is in her own 3ft viv, with kitchen paper for substrate. The temps are 102 in hot end and 85 in cooler end measured with a digital probe thermometer. She has a repti glo 10 coil uvb ( i know there is controversy over these but vet assured me that the problem has been sorted, however i am starting to worry). She was fed this morning (uk time), fresh veg (greens and butternut squash) and also about 10 hoppers, which she chased and enjoyed every one. They get dusted with calci dust 5 times per week and nutrobal 2 times per week.

She has been doing really well, eating lots an very active, right up until a few hours ago. She seems very limp and jumps if i go to touch her. She has also pooped about 5-6 times today whereas usually it's 1-2.

I have spoken with the vets and made an appointment for her for the morning, as they said they would need to see her to diagnose her

Any suggestions would be greatfully appreciated

Thanks
Kerry

Hi Kerry...just curios, how large are the hoppers? I know you guys in the U.K. feed those and locusts, is it possible that she ate more of them than usual and has a tummy ache ? That's the only thing I can think of because it came on so SUDDENLY, after she ate, and then all the little poops. If it were an eye issue, she would have displayed symptoms sooner.

they were medium, same size as she always has. I did think she could have a tummy ache, but she looks so sorry for herself, i got worried.

I hope that is all it is

Hello,

I would have to suggest however, that you remove the Reptiglo 10 compact/coil light though. It just does not have the proper wavelength of UVB light which hinders the ability to synthesize D3 & other vitamins & minerals.
She would do a lot better with the Arcadia D3 12% tube bulb. Are you using a bright white light in the tank, also?
Try giving her some probiotics such as benebac or acidophiliz or some non dairy soy yogurt to help her in case she has a tummy ache from the hoppers.

Thanks Tracie,

I think i will be looking at getting the uvb bulb changed,it is causing me to worry too much. At least then i can rule that out if i have any further problems.

I don't have any of those things in the house to give her.

The lights went out 30 mins ago, she just sat in the same place for a while, but she has just got up and is wondering around, looking a little better too...........

I really hope it is/was just a tummy ache

Hello,

I do think that changing the light should help her with calcium absorption. I saw your other thread, today. How is she doing?

Sounds like it was a tummy ache...and yes, she ESPECIALLY needs a good UVB source if she develops eggs to assimilate the calcium.

hi AHBD,

I put another post on yesterday, the heading is 'follicle problem'.

We gotta keep an eye on her for eggs, but vet rang me back last night an told me she had coccidia, an to go back an get some more meds for her. I did that an gave them to her last night and she improved within 10 mins. She seems alot better today but still not 100%.

Have a look at the other post, it explains wot she's gotta have an when

Thanks for you help

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
