Sudden turn for the worst within two days

Hi, my name is Jamie, and my 2 year old Izzy is sick. I don't know what to do. Over the past month, she underwent surgery for her tail, a part of it fell off, and never healed. When in about a week ago to have it closed, her health at that time was awesome, she was improving and eating daily. Over the weekend though, she suddenly stopped eating and lost a lot of weight (from 501g to 308g within days!) I took her to the hospital and they told me that she was very dehydrated and needed a full blood panel, though she had one done at the time of surgery. She is also showing signs of odd behavior... she started to bob her head and then *hump* in a small circle... then suddenly she went from normal color to a very pail tan, with about 3 inches of her tail turning BLACK, and her Beard turning BLACK! What does this mean? The saddest part to this is she is costing me and my new hubby a lot of money ($500.00 with the emergency visit and her visit on Monday)... we might have to put her down if the cost keeps climbing... what do I do?! :?

I am very sorry to hear about your little one I have no idea what you could possibly do. I am having difficulty with my spike at the moment but no where near the cost of what you have paid. I have him on critical care formula at the minute not sure if you have already but it will increase their body weight and hopefully make her stronger. I have also thought about getting him put to sleep as he had not eaten for three months and i had to adminster ccf to him twice a day and wondered what quality of life he had. But i held in there and he is now showing signs of improvement Its entirely up to you though as these are tough times at the minute and if you cannot afford to keep paying vets bills It would be completly understandable. I would ask the vet to give you a prognosis as in what chance of full recovery that she has if you have not already asked . It is probably a very hard decision to make as you have had her in your life two years and I found it hard even thinking about it altough I only have spike a matter of months. Hope she improves soon.

I am sorry about your dragon! She is not feeling well, by exhibition of her black beard. That usually means distress & or pain.
So what was her surgery for, tail amputation? Did they get all of the affected area on the tail? Can you post a picture of her & the tail for me?
It is very possible that she has picked up an infection post surgery, etc. We need to act on this very quickly or if she does have an infection that has spread systemically it is going to kill her very fast. So, action does need to be taken immediately. Have you called the vet yet? Did they prescribe an antibiotic post surgery? If not, I highly recommend getting her on antibotics to take care of that infection if that is what is going on. I understand already spending money on the surgery etc, though but perhaps they will just prescribe an antibiotic over the phone for you to go pick up? I would hate for you to put her down quite yet, let's see if we can get her taken care of.
If she is not eating, you will need to make her a nutritional slurry with pedialyte mixed in with it to get that into her along with calcium & vitamins & some bee pollen for immune system boosting.

Ok, it is a bit hard to tell of the coloring of her tail, but, it does look a little off. How much of the tail was taken off, & did he give any antibiotics post surgery? Please answer those few questions for me. Her eyes look a little sunken & the fat pads on top are non existent right now which means she is extremely dehydrated. You will need to begin rehydration therapy immediately to try & get her fluid levels up. I believe she is probably getting some type of infection from the surgery, as I had suggested some of the necrotic or infected area of the tail may have been missed upon amputation.

Izzy was on meds after her surgery and was doing great... eating and everything. Was a little dehyrated, but that got better, until the past weekend.....

Went to the vet today, and found out that her folicals have bursted and there is only a 40% chance of her getting better. She has a rare condition that is usually seen in birds, called.. Egg Yoke Paratenites(?). This is a very grave illness, and with how much surgery will cost or even just going in a doing a *wash* on her, will only make her comfortable, and not better. Her white cells are all over the place in high numbers, and so is her protein, the Vet doesn't have high hopes for her, and thinks putting her down is the best thing for her... and I agree, but it still sucks!

Izzy Girl, Momma and Daddy love you soo much! No one will ever replace the love and the happiness you gave us!

I know we have PM'd I just thought I would respond on your thread, also.
I am sorry that Izzy has ruptured follicles. That is what has caused systemic infection. Had she ever laid any eggs prior to this?
The prognosis of peritonitis is not good, no. He could clean her coelomic cavity out & do a hysterectomy which have been successful in some cases.
I am sorry that you are having to go through this.
