Some of you may have seen my post about Wiggles. My little baby beardie was a sort of rescue, When I got her, her tail was injured and had the possibility of spreading infection to the rest of her tail. I had no idea what to do but was inspired by LG, the beardie with no legs. So long story short we did take off the end of her tail and bandaged and cared for her properly, cleaning and sanitizing every day with a dab of neosporin. IT WORKED!! Shes more active, healthy, eats her fill (shes a little fatty) And loves to be up and around and alert all day. Its a complete change from when we first got her. She was lethargic and hardly moved on her own, wouldnt chase her crickets or even attempt to get them unless right under her nose. And she only ate maybe 5-10 a day.

Here is the link to my posting I put in the ER section to begin with.

And here are before and after photos of her tail. Its healing quite nicely. Thankyou to LG and His master =]

I am glad your baby is doing ok. Although I wouldn't encourage other people to do the same, you are very lucky. I admit that I am more than a little disturbed that you did this yourself. I can't imagine the pain that poor little thing went through when you cut off his tail :(
From the look of the pic all the necrotic tissue has not been removed and I wouldn't relax quite yet, at least not until the whole tail has returned to a nice viable color. I suggest you mark the tip of the tail, where the color begins to darken and monitor it carefully for signs of it moving farther up.
Good luck and I hope he keeps improving.

Isnt she an absolute stunner!!
Im quite sure you are constantly watching her tail - My little guy had a bad bite from his clutchmates when I got him and part of his toe fell off, thankfully by itself - that was about 8 months ago and I still check, almost every day, to make sure his toe is ok and not looking any different to normal!!

I didn't mean to upset you, it's just that in humans, doctors remove all necrotic tissue, which involves cutting into healthy tissue with live active nerves. I know with people that if all necrotic tissue has not been removed it can rapidly spread and cause gangrene, which exactly why it has to be removed. So basically you had two options. Either cut into healthy tissue, which would be very painful or risk not removing all the dead tissue. Which in this case, even after two weeks, there is a possibility of the necrosis spreading which could be deadly. As long as there is any black, I suggest you watch it very closely. Like I said I am happy your baby is doing ok and has shown signs of improvement.

Alright for the sake of this post. im only posting becuase people were concerned. I know the risks of doing this fully. In no way am I promoting that anyone try this themsevles, seek veterinary care first.
I could not afford it. I believe if she was a human than the situation would be the same. but since she is not and i did not remove everything ill just watch it for now, shes doing great and before i removed it she was very sick and lethargic, If anything its done more good than harm so far. I think if her old wound was bothering her she would let me know with her actions =]

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
