Hello,
Have a question,my beardie is a 10" total lenght,Since I have had him,I have used slate tile as a subtrate. It is very easy to clean, maintian. And at the time very cost effective. He does not or has seem to have any issues. Its just that i would like to now give him a more realistic home.He is currently in a 40 breeder with a basking spot and a tree/branhes to climb.I would just like to give him some place where he can burow and feel safe if he should feel threatened or gets to warm. Now that he has grown and is still growing. I was thinking of switching to a sand based subtrate. I know there is much debate on sand no sand and what type of sand to use. I know that the snad w/calcium can be very expensive. So that is not an option. especially having to change at least once a month or so. So i have washed play sand. The brand made by he concrete co. (forgot name) is it ok to use it.I usually feed him his daily crickets in another enclosure. But sometimes feed him in his cage, what is the risk of impaction. I know I read somewhere that i can sprinkle calcium powder on the sand so if he should ingest some it will help him pass it. Now that he has gotten bigger.I have gone into several different pet shops and they all seem to have them in sand based enclosures. even hatchlings. So any suggestions would be helful...
Thanks
