substrate questions!!

I'm just wondering what is a better substrate to have in a terrarium! I was using plantation soil and my beardy never had a.problem with it but I was wondering if calcium sand would be better than plantation soil?? Any suggestions. Cause I don't really like the look of the green grass stuff.

Both of those would be awful substrates to be quite blunt.

I have slate tile and I love it! Easy clean up, nails are filed, holds the warmth...it's great!

Those can all be deadly and messy. I like reptile carpet. Its easy to clean and looks pretty nice.

Where do I purchase slate? and what is the cost?

You can purchase slate or any other type of tile at most any home improvement store.

Cost will vary but It will be less than a big bag of sand. And it will last a lifetime, you won't have to keep replacing it like you do with a loose substrate.

This is a question that will probably help everyone. What kind of slate do you get? When I went to the hardware store, there was natural slate, and this nicer one that has a ceramic backing. The other one was also slightly more expensive. It also looked much nicer. Does it matter which one you get? They both had the slate texture. Sorry for posting this on someone else's topic, it seemed like it would help them and me and a lot of curious people.

P.S. I spent 25 dollars for a box of 40 6x6 slate tiles at home depot. I think it was less than $1.50 for one tile.
