What are some good substrate alternatives to Sand?
I've tried newspaper, its too loud and looks bad.
I've tried cloth, but it seems very unsanitary.

I am just now experimenting with tile, however, my beardie doesn't seem to like it much.
He can't seem to get good traction on it and slips around everywhere.

What are some good alternatives?
And if tile, what type so it is not a slippery surface and they can't get traction?

I use tile and love it. It is so easy to clean. When we were picking out the tile we went through the entire selection at the store and felt the surface of every one of them to pick out the one that had the roughest feel. I ended up picking one that looks like slate. You can use real slate, but it has to be sealed because it is porous and will soak up any liquid it gets on it.

use plain paper. THen put a tile where the basking light is. The tiles absorb the heat and stay warm long after the lights are switched off

I got some good advice here and am using shelf paper (nonstick) the kind I picked as a bit of texture pattern so Safearra is able to get traction. I found a light brown pattern so it looks nice. It is VERY easy to clean. I use rock and slate to build up a basking spot.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
