Stress Marks vs Shedding

So, Croaker is a new compatriot, but he's been dark on/off since I got him. He's also started to shed. I know that colors get dull/blurry when shedding, but iguanas don't really have a stress-mark equivilent... so I wonder if stress marks are more likely when they're getting rid of old skin.
