well, i think the stress from treating for cocidia may be killing my beardie. He hasnt eaten anything in four days, since i started the Albon everyday, he is terrified of me and just hides in the corner all day, not wanting greens or crix. Before i started the albon, he had diahrrea, but he was still active and eating both crix and greens everyday, he is also becomming more lethargic now. Im just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what i should do, im so worried its starting to stress me out really bad too. should i still be handling him regularlly so he wont be afraid or leave him alone? and how can i get him to eat something? I have never had great success on treating reptiles so any help would be great, they usually die on my if i have to treat them.

my tank stats are
75 gallon tank, 110 basking spot, 80-90 ambient, two digital thermometers, one probe and a temp gun, reptisun 10.0 10 inches from basking spot, tile substrate. crix and reptiworms and collard, mustard greens, yellow squash, sometimes apple, oh, and he he about 15 inches long, dont know actual age, please please please give me some advice, i think he may be starting to lose weight too

Poor thing !! Did your vet tell you how high the coccidia level is ? Because if he was in good health and eating fine, it may not have been an issue. I can't tell you one way or another what to do, but stress can take a toll, so you must decide what to do. When given Albon, which is very harsh, most vets also prescribe a probiotic to help restore the good flora in the gut. He will need it if you continue the treatment. Something like benebac or acidophiliz+. I hope he gets to feeling better and gets his appetite back soon !

I would start feeding baby food. Get stage one stuff, chicken, turkey, squash or whatever favorite of your beardie.

It's normal for them to go off food when being treated. The meds also kill the good intestinal flora which helps them digest food. So they feel pretty yucky. But just because it's normal, doesn't mean it's not worrisome. You might want to consider some supplements to help replace the good flora, like acidophiliz+ (spelling?) or some unsweetened soy yogurt.

Right now is the time for spoiling. You want them to eat to keep their strength up. Protein is best, but take what you can get and clean up the mess later.

After the treatment is over, you should see improvement start seeing improvement within a few days-a week.

Another thing, use a plastic, rather than glass syringe or dropper to feed with. Someone recently posted about their dragon biting the glass tip off and then vomiting....not to scare you, but just a precaution.

little update, i called my vet, he looked at the chart and said his count was 1+ and from reading on here and elsewhere it seems like not something to treat, the only reason my vet treated him was that he was having diahrehha. so, anyone think i should continue or not, especially since the albon is making him worse???

more success, i just got him to eat about 35 superworms and waxworms, i know there not the most amazing nutrition but better than nothing at this point, im very optimistic now, i think i spoiled him on reptiworms, he may never eat a cricket again lol

Hey, that's great that he's eating....one caution, though. Beardies LOVE to gobble up superworms, but sometimes[ especially if it's the first time ] they throw them back up. You can't feed as many supers as crickets at a time. I give 5-6 at a time twice a day at that size. [ Your 15" beardie]

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
