Strange situation

Ok, now, I know males are territorial. We originally have Nexus in our bedroom, and Loki in the guest bedroom. Everything was fine, they had no problem with each other outside of their tanks. The only time there was any issue was if Loki came into the bedroom while Nexus was in his tank. He'd go crazy head bobbing. But they could sleep together, run around, even bath together.

But John's younger brother's been through some hard times, and moved in with us while looking for work. So, since his sleeping schedule was different, we decided to move Loki into our room for a while.

Big mistake.

He only stayed there for about 5 days. Both Loki and Nexus hated it. They went nuts. Nexus was head bobbing like crazy, Loki was arm waving, puffing, even head bobbing sometimes. He started freaking out if anyone even went into his tank. He jumped and bit John's hand too. We tried keeping them from seeing each other by blocking their view, but it didn't help at all.

As soon as we could, we managed to get his tank into the living room (had to get extension cords and re-arrange furniture, and neither of us have been in the best health lately). They've been apart for more then a week. Nexus hasn't stopped black bearding since. He head bobs all the time. (He's usually the laziest, calmest, most even tempered beardie ever) Loki's calmed down, but he was uneasy at first. They're both eating fine and everything now. (Neither refused food at all, but Loki did eat a little less bugs during his stay in the room)

Now, tonight, Nexus was black bearding and running around head bobbing like crazy, and John had him on the edge of a recliner, and I had Loki on me right out of his bath. They saw each other and just kept looking. No head bobs, no waving, no puffing. Then Nexus climbed a little onto John's shirt and his black beard went away almost instantly, his muscles all relaxed, and Loki kept going near Nexus, and sitting next to him. We were petting each of them a bunch, and they just seemed to get along fine.

It just seemed strange that the only time all week that Nexus calmed down was when he was around Loki. They really acted so different, and Loki as usual (before the move), kept trying to be near Nexus. He doesn't climb on top of him, just goes alongside him. It seems to only be their tanks they get defensive of. I figure it should be fine as long as they only see each other when neither is in their tank, and they're always watched when together. But they both were calm and relaxed in the others presence, Nexus especially so. He went from completely tense and dark to bright and relaxed, we could move him and everything without any resistance. Loki was calm enough to go to sleep next to him there (It was even 2 hours early, and he usually doesn't like to sleep early, too restless).

Just wonder what other people think of this. It kinda leaves me baffled. I've never heard of a male being calmed by the presence of another male beardie.

Goodness me!
I think you are quite right though, alot of dragons are incredibly defensive of their 'homes'.
When I first brought Ruben home he spent the first month in his viv showing me that this was HIS HOUSE by puffing and black bearding.
If he was in the bath or with me he would never puff or beard, but when I put him back into his viv he's start the whole big boy routine all over again.
Id imagine this can be very similar with dragon on dragon interaction.
We'll play nice on nutral ground but WOE BETIDE YOU if you come near my domain!!!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
