Hi Everyone,
Pico is not wanting to eat ANYTHING! If I place food before him, he does this weird gulping where his whole neck/beard area rises and falls. Has anyone else experienced this and if so is it normal? I have tried every type of green leafy veg, squash, green beans, peas, blue berries, bananas, crickets, super worms (which he LOVED just last week), beardie dry food, the moist beardie cubed food.....he has not eaten anything in four days!!!
I have had to squirt the Jump Start into his mouth with the syringe. Since it is so thick I use a small syringe of water or pedialite afterwards to help wash it down.
I am also using the Reptaid XL and I have been doing vitamins every other day as he is not getting vitamins from food. From reading other posts I see lots of beardies go through these not eating stages but, do any of you have your beardies doing this gulping thing???? I am wondering if it is normal or I need to get to a vet. Sometimes it is so extreme I see his belly sides going in and out. I have held him up to my ear and every so often I can hear a little labored breathing (it is very rarely that I hear it). I know the Reptaid XL is supposed to help with any respiratory infections. We have been doing the Reptaid XL for about a week as directions say 10 days and two off.

In case you need more info, Pico is 8 years old. His tank in 4'long 18" high and 12" deep. He has a 150 heat emitter on the warm side along with a 100 watt basking bulb and the temp runs between 92 and 102. I use Reptisun 10 for the UVB and it is hung up inside of the tank and depending on where he is laying, he is between 6-9 inches from it. His UVB and basking are on a timer from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM. His 75 watt black light for sleeping is on from 7:00 PM until 7:00 AM. I have the probe digital thermometer in the basking area right next to where he lays in his hammock. The cool side of the tank runs between 70 and 78 degrees and he has a little "cave", branches, rocks to climb on and the bottom of the tank is covered in tile and he has artificial plants to hide behind and under.

He gets a bath every other day and his poo has the bright white and then the other is formed ok (of course it is in the bath water so it is kind of hard to tell) and not runny. He will not get out of the tub until he does his business so he has been regular. He is 16" long and I am not quite sure of his weight right now, in my observation he has lost some weight.

When I get him out (not until between 6 and 7:00 PM so I know he has had adequate UVB time) he just wants to cuddle. If I set him down, he won't go anywhere. He just stays put until I pick him up again. He used to like to run around and climb. He has always loved to cuddle but he gets extra clingy when I try to put him to bed. A couple of nights I have been so worried I wrapped him in a soft towel with one of those hand warmers tucked between the layers above him and put him in a basket next to my bed and slept with my hand on his basket and his little hand clutching my finger all night. Am I just being paranoid??? Is the gulping a normal thing??? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Sorry for perhaps not being much help because I'm struggling to take all the information in (I get that sometimes, its not anything to do with your post) but in this situation you are likely best to go to the vets.

In terms of the gulping it does make me wonder if something has been difficult to take down/digest (maybe something stodgy like the banana and/or dried foods) and needs moisture. When it comes to force feeding then you generally do need to water it down and pedialyte should really help with any possible dehydration - however there are potential risks with force feeding so always be careful.

Either way something definitely sounds off to me in terms of his issue to breathe and gulping like something is trapped/blocking his passage. I'm a little confused with the faeces, did you mention that there are other parts rather than just the urates?

Thank you for replying so quick. The dark part of his bowel movement is what I was referring to. That seems to be regular and normal.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
