So my beardie baby, Catahoula, stopped eating after hurricane Sandy hit the east coast and still hasn't eaten. He is around 6 or 7 weeks - 6 " snout to tip and I'm not sure how much he weighs.
His set Up:
1 basking lamp - basking spot around 110 degrees
paper towel bedding
two bowls - one for veggies and such and one for water on the cooler side
cooler temp of tank is 85 degrees
it's a 20 gal screen tank (kept in a room with a temp of 85 so it stays that way all day & night)
a beardie hammock made of fabric
10.0 UVB tube lighting (not the coil or bulb)
one rock hide
Food offered:
I have 1/8 inch crickets which he used to love which are dusted with calcium daily but he has zero interest in them now. He also has a few shredded carrots (only a couple) and some squash and peas. finally, I have baby bearded dragon bites which he did eat a lot before.
1st day I noticed he was eating less:
He only ate 2 crickets and a lot of beardie bites
2nd day:
one cricket, no beardie bites
3rd day:
maybe a couple of crickets? did not see him eat any but bf says there were less in the tank than were given
today:
nothinge
what I've tried:
I've tried giving him different sized crickets, using brighter foods (the carrots and squash), and adjusting the temp by 2 or 3 degrees. Today I even grabbed a 1/8" cricket and rubbed it on his nose. He opened his mouth for a fraction of a second then closed it when i tried to move the cricket at all. Never opened his mouth again even though I tried rubbing the cricket on his nose, which usually is why he opens his mouth. he does perk up when a little cricket runs by and starts to move after them like he's hunting but then falls asleep only a moment after he makes one move towards them. and once he closes his eyes, he doesn't care if they crawl on him.
he is also being lethargic and losing weight. He moves around the tank but very slowly over longer periods of time and has ended up in his food dish a few times. he just curls up in the bowl on top of the baby bites and goes to sleep! He only keeps one eye open at a time but will become very alert and look around if I pick him up. He's definately losing weight/changing shape. He used to be a big eater and a plump little guy but now he's starting to get very skinny. At first, I thought he might be impacted but he is still going to the bathroom. But his fecals are clear with just a little bit of white or brownish in them and runny. I'm at my wits end and terrified he is slowly starving to death.
please! any help? I'm going to get baby food and soy yogurt right after I post this but I doubt he will eat them because he refuses even his beloved beardie bites. I've tried everything I can think of and have been bathing him as muc as possible. - just falls asleep in the little bathtub.
