Any one have any clue on how to make their beardies less stinky?

I clean out the poop as soon as I can, usually with in a few moments of them making it.

They get their soaks every Thursdays, and Tuesdays, but that's just a luke warm water and doesn't do anything for their stinky smell.. Sometimes its so bad I don't want to even hold them fearing the smell will imprint on me, and Ill smell like them all day.

I just want a safe way to help get rid of the poopie smell on them.. any clues?

I speak from experience that it is safe. I have been using it on Nemesis for 6 months and he has never had one problem.

Dawn is also ok to use. Dawn was used to clean oil off the animals that they saved in the oil spills.

Oh Yeah I forgot about Dawn, I usually use it at work to clean up animal things. Thanks!

I've heard no soap is safe as it can have negative effects on their skin. I think you might want to look into why they smell stinky, my dragon has never smelled bad to me and I do as you do, poops in bath, remove her when she is done and clean sink. Either there is something in the viv causing them to smell or something could be wrong, but I've not heard of them as being stinky animals so I might look into why they are if I were you

Do you think using a little pinch of baking soda and a soft toothbrush would be ok. Mine never smells bad. He has very little odor at all really.

I would be cautious about regular soap use as well, it could be dangerous. Long term it could cause problems, especially because the dragon's skin is rough, with nooks and crannies all over to retain soap residue that you can't see. There are no long term studies, so it's not proven safe over a long period. Not to mention accidental swallowing or getting it in the eye. I don't know why yours stink, that's odd. But I would stay away from soap, remember the Dawn soap used on animals in oil spills is used for a 1-time clean up, not regular bathing. Are you possibly using a substrate like sand that is holding in the smell by chance ?

Maybe it's the tank?

We have 6 beardies. 3 in glass tanks and 3 in a triple decker wooden enclosure.

We have noticed that the 3 in the glass tanks smell and the 3 in the wooden enclosure have no smell at all. Coincidence? Possibly but I doubt it as we just did a move with one of our dragons. She was in a glass tank and has been moved to the wooden enclosure. She smelled before the move. She doesn't smell now. It's a couple months later. I think the glass holds in the smell because it heats up when the lights are on and making what little smell they do have increase. Just a thought and something to think about.

We've decided to build more wooden enclosures so none of our dragons smell and they can all be spoiled.

I had my dragon in a glass enclosure for the first 7 months and she never smelled. If you haven't already made a thread asking about what could cause them to smell I really would. If it really is the tank I would suggest moving them if you can, and if not please don't use any soap, i've since asked other reptiles owners about it who are strongly against any kind of soap due to both bad experiences and knowledge of effects it can cause. you can try just using a soft tooth brush when they are in the bath, encase there is anything where you can't see that soaking can't remove.

I would say it may be time for a vet visit. I would bet you may have a parasite. either fecal or mites. But either way you will need to treat it. Your dragon shouldn't smell bad. I would at least take a fecal sample to the vet for a fecal check.

I use tear free baby bath on my dragons if they need a good cleaning. I agree that she should be checked for parasites, I also wonder if you are using sand in her tank?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
