Steve won't touch any of his veggies (Yes, I named my beardie Steve). I've had him for about 2 weeks and I haven't seen him touch a single green/veggies. I have a salad consisting of collard greens, carrots, sweet potato, green beans, and bell pepper. He's about 3 months old and 5 1/2 inches. He likes his dusted crickets (seems like about 5-7 smalls a day), but that's it. Any suggestings? Should I be concerned??

Thanks!!!

Hi

No worries. Alvin did the very same thing and after about a month he started to nibble a little and now after 2 months, he is nibbling a little more. I started off by putting some phoenix worms in with his vegies and he had to look for them in the vegies which helped some. They mostly need protein at this age anyway so it is nothing to worry about. I guess they have to realize it is food and then they begin to eat it.

How old is your beardie? They seem to learn to like their salads more as they get older. Also, u said u have only had him for 2 weeks so he is probably going through some re-loaction stress which could also cause him not to eat as much. I normally give Drago a salad in the morning & tehn feed him his live feeders later in the day. This way, he won't fill up on the live feeders & not eat his greens! lol

My two year old will only eat the greens in his salad and that is ok with me as he gets his protein from superworms and crickets.

Many babies wont eat their veggies until they're older. It is just important that the veggies are offered to them everyday. Carrots aren't particularly bad for beardies, but they aren't good. I wouldn't put them into a salad.

He should start eating more as he gets used to his new home.

A better salad would consist of things like collard greens, turnip greens, mustard greens, kale, cactus pad/leaf, dandelion greens, escarole, and butternut squash.

I have a beardie, Professor Stubbs, who is a full grown male, age unknown (he was given to me). He is a class pet in my science classroom and loves to hang out on students desks and run around his "playpen" in the room.
I have tried every kind of veggie, dry food, moist food, flowers etc. and all he really eats are crickets or superworms and baby food (only if hand fed). Rarely he'll eat dandilions, but that's it. I've offered him veggies everyday for over 2 months and he still won't eat them. He picks out the superworms I put in them and will dig through the veggies to get to the worms.
Any suggestions??

I would suggest offering him a morning salad with only greens/veggies (no worms). After a few hours, then offer him the live feeders. If u are putting the worms in with his salad...he is only interested in having the yummy worms! lol! By the time he eats the worms, he may be full or not interested in eating any of the greens. Hopefully by offering him just the salad in the morning, he will eat it when he gets hungry. Just a thought. Variety is key & many beardies seem to be attracted to colorful food items. I would cut up some acorn or buttnerut squash into little cubes or u can use a cheese grader & sprinkle it over his greens.

When I put Lilly's new greens in her cage in the morning I handfeed her a piece or a few so she knows they are there. I'm sure she could figure it out on her own, but I love having her eat out of my hand lol.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
