"Squirts" Tail snapped/broken - pics - help

Squirt was a very healthy dragon till myself and my gf noticed the other day the end of his tail looked very wonky. We gave it 24 hours and gave him a bath tonight. Its pretty much fell off and we can see red flesh underneath. Please can anyone advise the best course of action. The tail is still attached by part of the skin by the looks of it.

Update on Squirt. He is still eating, moving about (basking right now with mouth open). I have created a temporary cover for this to stop any being inquisitive about it. We had one cricket tried having a look at it very closely. Squirt didnt seem to mind the cricket or me bandaging it up. In fact he just watched me with a big smile.

Poor dragon . At least it doesnt seem to bother him. I am not exactly sure what needs to be done but i do remember reading someone with a similar situation. Let me look for the forum and I will attach the link to it.

Hi there....was the tail bitten ? I see he's in with other large dragons, so that seems to be what happened. You could snip the piece off, it's not going to reattach, and you can put some antibiotic cream on it. The bandage may be an attraction for the other beardie to bit at, so you may want to separate them.

These 2 have been together forever. Never had a bite or a snip at each other. they love nothing more than cuddling up to each other and flirting. Had them since they were 13 weeks old and they are now 9 months old.

I have no idea what has caused this, the bandage is there for tonight before I remove the sand tomorrow, get some antibiotic cream and separate him until he gets better. He has been so calm and relaxed during this, I am the one freaking out

Yes, a bitten tail is not too painful, I've seen them get a nip or bite, and act as if it never happened, calm, happy feeding just like normal. He should be fine, but you need to be aware that the other beardie may now view the bandaged tail as something to try as a snack, and even moreso if the tail is bare and hanging, or pink/reddish in color at the break.

i have seen end of tails lost on adults when a very thin ring of skin develops and cuts off the circulation. An adult rescue we had had a couple rings and I had to carefully take a dull pin to get under the skin and break the ring. It was very pink underneath, now the tail is just fine. Its very hard to see sometimes, a break in the formation of the scales or a very slight indentation is an indication of a ring of skin that needs to be removed.

Once you have snipped the broken end off, you could soak that stump in Betadine solution to keep it from becoming infected. Mix Betadine with water until it becomes the color of weak tea. The easiest way to do it is to wrap him in a washcloth burrito style and put the solution into something like a pill bottle and hold that tail stump down into the solution in the bottle. That way he doesnt have a chance to drink it, and just the stump gets soaked. Do that for about 20 min a day, twice a day for a week, and it should keep it from getting infected. My old dragon had a similar injury that did get infected and this really helped to clear it up. I usually waited til he was asleep late at nite or before his lights came on to do the soak, so he was still groggy and didnt resist much.
