To give some background, . . . I was given a wonderful little beardie who had been rescued by a member of BD two weeks ago. She was dehydrated, with retained shed and bite scars from crickets. The BD member had her one day and then had a family emergency. He sent her to me, because he couldn't take care of her during his emergency. When we got her I named her Ember.
Last weekend we built a double decker viv and moved Spark and Ember into their new homes on Monday evening. I have been working on getting the temps correct in each viv and both of them have settled in nicely. I have been really stressed about Ember, since she is still so little and I just worry. Last night, I lost it, sobbing into my partner's shoulder that I was going to screw up and Ember wasn't going to thrive. And also, I was missing Ash, our first beardie we lost. (Some hormones may have also played a part in my reaction.)
After being reassured by my partner, I obsessively went back upstairs to check on my little princess and found her playing in her water dish. The water is pretty shallow and when she stands up it doesn't quite reach her armpits. She was skooching around in it, kicking her feet and trying to swim. I burst out laughing. (Laughter through tears is the best medicine.) She popped her head up and looked at me. I covered my mouth to stifle my laughter and a minute or so later she started playing again. She was splashing so strongly that it was flipping water all over her viv. She gets a bath every night for ten minutes or so and she never plays in the sink like she was playing in her dish. She dunked her head, kicked water every where and flipped her tail back and forth in the water for ten minutes or so, then popped out and went to bask under her light. It was the funniest thing I have ever seen.
Needless to say, I am less stressed today.
