Sorting Dubia

I heard mention of a Dubia sorting video someone might be putting together. I have a two-bin setup. Breeders and feeders. I'd love to know an elegant (simple) way to sort through them every few weeks to seperate the feeders from breeders. I've seen a bucket w/ holes in it scenario. If that's the best way to do it, that's what I'll do, but it seems like that would possibly cause the females to drop egg cases from stress. Kind of backwards from the purpose methinks.

James, I have so many now I just sort when I am feeding... I think I have somewhere around 5-6K between the 3 bins now... ;)

you sort when you're feeding?! How on earth does that not take an extra ten minutes per feeding? My guys go through so much food (haven't started them on the Dubias yet) I don't want to think about having to hand pick 50 dubias per feeding (or more)

Na I up end the egg crate into the feed bin, and toss out what I'm keeping for breeders... takes me like 30 seconds ;) But then I have quick fingers for an old woman :D

but then you've got every size from tiny nymph to big juvie left in there for the dragon's dinner right? I guess General Tso wouldnt be nearly as picky about the different sizes I feed him as I am.

I would love to learn about the "elegant" way to sort dubias. I think Saharas still a bit too young for roaches though...

What do you guys think? 4 months about 12 inches long. You think she can munch on some baby dubias? Is it worth me starting a colony?

Don't mean to hijack, but I forsee myself spending a small fortune on feeders in the next year...

at 12" she could devour hundreds of the baby nymphs. You'd have to feed her the medium nymphs. (the baby nymphs come out at 1/4" or so)

LOl you can borrow my kids, they will sort them at feeding time for you!!!

We just got our dubia's today and my boys were sooooooooo excited, my oldest was holding them, petting them and letting him crawl all over him, he was lovin them! I can't touch them  so Dakin will be helping me once they start breeding and I can feed from the bin, haha

I have 3 sons, seriously I dont mind lending one out here and there

alrighty. I'll need to borrow them once a month to seperate feeders from Breeders. How quickly can they ride their bikes down to Kansas CIty?

Quick question...do Dubias bite? I didn't think crickets bit people till my brother got bit by one and I looked it up online and read somewhere that "they're known to bite." It wasn't a bad bite at all...didn't really hurt but now I'm all scared of them, lol. I want to move to dubias since I cannot stand crickets anymore ARGGHHHH!!!!!!

No, I dont think Dubia's bite...from everything I've read it all says No and my boys were letting our roaches climb all over them yesterday and none of them got bit.

Most accept crix as the main staple, since they are uneducated of the benefits of roaches as a staple. I've had those buggers up my sleeve and everything... no bites. tickles as they dash over my hand, but I can just grin and scoop up the crates, upend them into the feeding bin, toss out the adult females and a few males, then into the viv with the correct supplement. Now granted, my boys are waaaaaaay over the 12" mark, the shortest would be Yardley, but even he is 16".

Janie ;)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
