So the vet says Skooter still has very high levels of coccidia! She is still pretty bloated so im taking both her and Rocco back to see the vet tomorrow. Im still worried about Rocco because he is still not eating and not basking much. Now im wondering if maybe he still has coccidia real bad! The vet asked what I have been cleaning their cages with and I told her ammonia. She said that wont kill the coccidia. I could have sworn I read on here somewhere that bleach will not kill coccidia.....so which is correct??? I just want to get them healthy again!!

Steam from a hand held steam machine for drapes will kill coccidea. That said, you have to hold the steam in place at least 1/2 a minute and move on.
Hope this helps out.

I dont think it is soo important to kill the coccidia in the environment. They are a natural part of the gut flora for this species, so they will always be there at low levels. When their immune systems are compromised, such as when she got pin worms, they are allowed to grow unchecked. Eventually when the immune system is restored the coccidia will come down. There isnt much evidence that coccidia alone can cause much in the way of a disease' so i dont understand why he opted to treat this first. I would have treated the pin worm and monitored the coccidia to see if it needed treatment later.

I too am dealing with a pin worm problem (massive shock as absolutely no signs of illness at all!) and i have bleached the cage and baked everything for 45 min. I will do it again this week.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
