Hey all - I have a question for the experts.
Is it possible that my seven month old dragon has just now decided she needs to try and brumate? She is acting the way Spark started to in October.
Three days ago she started to put herself to bed early. (5:30 ish - just after dinner time). She is eating less overall, but is still interested in live feeders. She has had phoenix worms, crickets and today she had some wax worms. (Wax worms are an occassional treat, when I am out of crickets and waiting to order more from Ghann's. They are healthier looking than the crickets I can buy locally.) She was pooping every day, and now it is slowing down to every other day (Spark did this too, at seven months).
Here's the thing. . . she is laying in her hide for most of the day. With her eyes shut. She's not stressed looking, and will perk up when I open the viv, but for the most part, just seems tired and lethargic. She will bask after eating or her bath in the morning, and for a short time in the evening, but the rest of the time, she just wants to sleep.
I went through this with Spark this fall, and he basically hid and slept for two months (eleven to twelve months old.) He is now out of his hide, bright eyed and eating veggies well. He's getting three or four feeders every other day (dusted of course), but otherwise likes his veggies instead (he was being offered feeders daily, but had no interest - I am assuming he has moved to the mostly veggie part of his existence.)
So my question is . . . does this sound like brumation? Is it possible that Embyr is wanting to brumate at seven months old, in Feb? Should I be worried?
My set is 48x20x30 with a Repti-Sun 10.0 6" from her basking spot. Basking temps of 104 - 106 with a 50 watt halogen. Cool side 79 - 81. The Repti-sun was changed three weeks ago for both beardies and Spark is loving his. Her colors are mostly bright, although I think she may be shedding her head and beard soon. I use calcium and vite dust. And an accurite digital probe. Embyr is 15" long and I'm pretty sure she is a girl, but not positive. (Acts like a boy - bearding, bobbing, no waving, but I can't see the hemipenes on the sides of her tail. I'm beginning to think hermaphrodite.)
Any ideas?
