Some Questions on Feeders

If I were to buy 1000 crickets, how would I take care of them in a 10 gallon tank?

How do you feed your bearded dragon it's crickets? Do you just dump a bunch into his/her cage?

I'd like to combine two different feeders into my beardies diet, crickets being one, what would you recommend as far as a worm?

Where is the best place to buy feeders?

I got 1000 crickets and put them in a 15H once and about a 1/3 of them died. From what I understand, it is important to keep their area cleaned and of course they need food and water. I used the gel stuff that gives them water and I fed them dried cricket food. Also, they have to have something to hide in like egg crates and empty paper towel rolls. Alvin (my beardie) goes in stages where he will eat a ton and then he will skip a few days and only eat a tiny bit. So, buying 1000 crickets was a waste for me.

As far as worms, Alvin's favorites are Butter Worms. Of course, they are quite expensive. He will also eat small super worms (but he is 16" - you have to be careful with those if the beardie is small). He doesn't like Phoneix Worms at all. I had bought 400 of them and had to give them away. It is not recommend that you give meal worms which are usually the easiest to find. I usually give him a few crickets, few butter worms, and a few small super worms (as many as he will eat) twice a day.

a) Provide clean egg crates, food and water gel... I recently found out that you can buy water gel crystals by the ounce on eBay, or you can check a science supply store for "polyacrylamide crystals". For food I used cricket diet, Fluker's or Premium Crickets... but if I were to do it again I would add those bearded dragon bites also. You could also throw in veggie leftovers from your beardie's salads. Clean the bin out as often as you can and provide good ventilation. Even then, you'll probably have some die on you.

b) I fed Nero in a separate container because I didn't want to bother taking furniture in and out of his cage constantly. But, my husband does dump the crickets directly in the cage when it's his turn to feed Nero. He thinks that feeding in a separate container spoils him. Feeding in another container cuts down on mess, also.

c) Phoenix worms are amazing but they are probably too expensive to use as a 100% staple feeder unless, well, you can afford it. Depends on how big your beardie is. Before he hit 16", I fed phoenix worms in the morning, before work, had salad in the cage all day, then fed crickets in the evening. Now I'm using just salad and supers. Or you could try roaches as long as they follow the width between the eyes rule.

d) A lot of people like Premium Crickets, but I had trouble ... my first and only cricket order from them arrived dead. They're good for worms and I like their Kricket Komplete package. Switched to Ghann's and every order from them has always come in fully alive and very active.
