So far the best name we've come up w/ our beardie is buddy because we keep calling "it" buddy for the time being...

Anyways Buddy has been shedding, first head now legs and even though he's "wild" right now andnot liking me latly....?!?!...

His appetite is back up and he's munching down on 15-20 crickets in a 10 minute window and finally ate his first greens yesterday! ....Then tried to run away from me...

Lesson Learned: He didn't fit into his harness/leash and won't fit for sometime obviouslyl...even though I had him in a contained area(Or so I thought) he attempted to break free and head across the grass....

I don't really have any birds and I think a combination of stimuli made him nuts so going outside yesterday, it was to big for him.....

So now he's almost 26g, 8" and I got him...2 1/2 weeks ago?... 7gr, 6 1/4"? I'm proud as our first reptile ever to see him thrive in our care.

When they shead they get grumpy. They go nuts outside. Our little Roo hates it outside she freaks and i mean freaks out and it affects her for days.

Outside is not a beardie friendly place, especially if you have one with a concerned and nervous type personality. Any movement from a distance can cause a beardie to go into flight mode, they want to run and hide and get away. Even an airplane can bring this on, that's just a big bird to them. They are definitely not very easy to hold onto at this point. You're beardie is very small , when they are that young, they tend to be more on guard as a natural instinct to not get eaten. He will get calmer and calmer as he gets older and become more trustworthy of you while getting more familiar with his surroundings. Just give him a reason to feel secure when you take him outside and only go out for short periods of time. There is no guarantee that he will eventually like it outside, I have older beardies who are so tough and the minute they go outside they freak. Then I have others who act like they've lived out there all their life.

Since Buddy is still so small I would try keeping him contained outside by putting him in a kiddie pool or something that he can't get out of. That way he can have some freedom and you can put a hide in there so if he gets scared he can run in there instead of trying to escape where you can't follow. Scorch is about 9 mo old and I will take her out w/ out her leash when she is on me but don't let her on the ground w/ out a leash. They are so fast and can get into the smallest places I just figure better safe than sorry.

I absolutely agree with you both. I'm not stressing him/her out. Not worth it. Last night gave a bath and this helped his legs shed. He ate about 35+/- sm crickets yesterday, kale, collard greens, clovers all this greenage is new that he has been trying. Not alot a bite of each maybe but I am happy to see some variety and him growing more :)

I think that's wonderful that Buddy is eating and thriving in your care. It's also great that he is trying new veggies. It's always best to get them started on the veggies early on.

BTW......I think Buddy is a great name!

I just have to ask about your heart being left in the FL keys.. :D Where about in the keys are you from? I grew up in Key West and have alot of fond memories of the place!

Hi Dawn!

I lived in Marathon and was associated w/ the Coast Guard, I'm going back to Marathon and Key West July 3-6th! I can not wait!!!

I miss it so much, it was such a simplier way of living, if I couldn't get it I didn't need it type of atmosphere!

How are 4th fireworks in KW compared to Marathon's?

Honestly, I couldn't tell you! I lived there throughout the 70's( I'm giving away my age  ) and have not been back since '93. Alot has changed since I lived there. As you mentioned though....that laid back atmosphere is definitely like no other. I currently live in the panhandle of FL, where I have been since '80. It's pretty laid back for the most part here too! I would imagine the fireworks will be great! How long did you live in Marathon?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
