hey guys, i've had my guy for like 3 weeks already and his is 2... almost 3 (on dec 10) months old, i've left him alone so that he could get adjusted to his place. He has no problem me hand feeding him, he seems to love it. but when i got to pick him up or at least just run his back or head with one finger he gets freaked and runs around crazy trying to get away from me, i try to pick him up when he's up on the glass trying to run... i slip my hand under and he's stay for like 2 seconds and run right off trying to get away, like he wants nothing to do with my hands. so could you guys please tell me your tips for taming your beardies?

They are still wiggly at that age you just have to be consistant. Ash just turned 4 months and will just now let you hold her for around 15 minutes at a time. Gobi will sit with you forever now and so will Amigo but they are 6 and 7 months. Cadmus at 2 months you may get 5 minutes if you get really lucky. So really you just have to be persistant and patient. Just keep picking him up and holding for a few minutes at a time several times a day. I personally just try to go a little longer each time with the little ones. When they get to wiggly I let them go back but I try to stretch it out just a little longer each time.
Sometimes not even holding them just letting them sit on the computer desk or the coffee table of sofa or something like that where they are close by but where I can still get a hold of them. That seems to help the most.

Hope this help some.
He will calm down just give it time.

The way i found to do it was i would sit by the tank with the door open and offer my dragon some greens.
so he would get use to my hand being in the tank.

After a time i would just put my hand in that worked for me. but i have two tanks 1 opens at the front and the other opens from the top.
if you have to put your hand in from the top you will find it harder as they think you are going to attack them.
I hope that helps

yea i've been thinking about letting him explore on my desk or couch, etc but i have to beardie proof my place, plus i'm kinda scared that if he falls from good height that he might get hurt, which scares me, but i'll keep trying to hold, hopefully his personality changes and he settles down :D

he will settle down eventually. Its took me 3 months to get my 7 month old used to me- now she enjoys sitting and snuggling in. try and hold your beardie little and often. and like the above posters said, hand feed him so he associates you with bringing something pleasureable- you could give him treats that he loves such as wax worms.

wow 3 months, lol, i guess i do have to be patient. even tho it may be shorter or so, but i will keep trying, on weekends like today i try to hold him every couple of hours. and then leave him be. any other bribes? lol

Hey Carlos, just wanted to chime in here that both you and Jeritta have babies from the same clutch! :)

Everyone's giving good advice, and as they age they get a lot more calm and lazy. I've probably told you before but their mom Kora is what I call my pet "living rock" ... LMAO she lives to eat and bask and that's about it! Father Diablo was also very nice and calm but had more spunk to him.

I would just scoop him up no matter how much he's freaking out, and hold him until he's calm. If he learns he can scurry away from you, he'll keep doing it. Just be brave and get him out. My philosophy is they'll get over it! I just walk around holding them....when they get too antsy I put them back in but for the most part just let him deal and be handled.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
