So how did your beardies get their names?

There are so many interesting names I see here on these boards, I'm just curious how did we come up with them?
Freddie was named after the Beardie in Nims' Island. Bad movie, Jody Foster is just so wrong in that role. But anyways, my 9 year old daughter who had wanted a Beardie for a while announced that when we get a beardie she's gonna name him Fred. And she did, and HE really is a he named Fred. I was worried that it would havta be Frederina for a while. That's my boring story. Liz

I'll go second
Puff got her name from her dad, who wasn't too thrilled about getting her but gave into my pleading him. His story behind naming her was after the movie, Puff the Magic Dragon. We wanted something unisex since we didn't know what she was at the time. I was hoping that she was a boy while she was growing so I could call her Puffdaddy but I guess Puffmama will do

Fred is a good name, a classic! And I believe there are at least a few women out there that go by fred... short for Winifred, or Fredricka perhaps? So in either case, you would have been just fine I'm sure!

We actually didn't see the movie until after we'd brought "Cloudy" home, or else Cloudy might have been another Fred! Cloudy belongs "technically" to my eight year old son who thought that her colors and pattern looked similar to that of a clouded leopard.

Eight year old son is a big fan of the movie btw (as are we all). :mrgreen: He loves Fred (or the many beardies that played him), and well, he also has a crush on Nim (Abigail Breslin) so we see the film regularly around our house. :wink: Ah, and I thought Jodi did ok as Alex... it was nice to see her mix it up for a change.

Midget or baby *who is no longer a midget" got her name because she was sold to us too young, and her mother was too young so she needed extra care.
She didnt shed FOREVER she barely ate...and then we found out about phoenix worms...it was the best trick ever. She was a wee little one but she was determined to show the new babies who was boss

Shiva my favorite was a fiesty and dominating from the get go. so i wanted a name that sounded fiesty. She quickly became the largest shedding like i change clothes it seemed

then there was Roxy who has a tude for days...so i thought id give her a preppy name because she was too stuck up to be held

hi all this is my first post so please be nice anyway my newest best mate is called uther pendragon after king arthurs dad i was gonna call him colin but my girlfriend said no i thought colin would sound great for a beardie well thats all for now

Gizmo was named after the film gremlins, not the nasty ones, but the cute fluffy one called gizmo. Wierd looking (to most people) but incredibly cute!

I got my baby's name M.J ..... if you haven't guessed yet... from MIchael Jackson. I got her on Jul 3rd... I couldnt figure out a name as this was my very first beardie... and plust i didnt know if it was a girl or a boy... so I said M.J !! Michael Jackson !!! lol

Jamie named Mushu after a dragon of the same name and red color from the cartoon Mulan, I didn't know this. I thought she named her after the chinese food Mushu Pork. Anyway, my favorite chinese food is General Tso's Chicken... so that's where our male General Tso got HIS name, cause I could just get out the chopsticks and nom him right up! lol

Rachel and I were at a local bar enjoying a killer all you can eat fish fry on a Friday evening and we decided that we were going to pick a name for the lizard. So we started naming off all the dragons names we could think of from TV shows and movies and didn't really like any of them. Fast forward about 5 minutes and enter a drunk guy that thought Rachel was cute and decided to let her know it. (Apparently he didn't see me sitting there or was too drunk to care) He walks up to our table and slurs " Hey I am Elliott and I want an all I can eat basket of you[Rachel]" So we just start laughing at the guy adn he stumbles off just as quick as he came. Then Rachel says " Hey remember that movie ""Pete's Dragon""?" "The invisible dragons name was Elliott" she continues. Then I thought about it and said "You know...he does kind of look like an Elliott" and so it was.....

Females - Bellatrix, Narcissa, Ariana, Nymphadora

Male - Lucius

My snakes are quite different but that is a completely different topic.

The g.f and I just decided we were getting a new baby so MJ can have a friend. His name will be Edward Cullen from TWILIGHT !!!!!!!!!! lol

I named Kazul after a dragon character in the children/young adult book series Dealing With Dragons. Kazul was a female, but she was King of the Dragons in a story that made a point of breaking gender stereotypes. It seemed to work well for a tiny little dragon with an unknown gender.
