Snow Storm

So today is Wednesday, and the news is saying to expect probably a foot or two of snow between Friday and Saturday. I live in Virginia, so when it snows even a couple inches everyone panics and the power usually goes out. So if it really does snow heavily and the power is out for several days, what is the best thing for me to do for my little guy? I went today and bought a bunch of those hand-warmer packets; I figure I can activate a couple and wrap them in some fleece to keep him warm in. However I'm worried about the UVB over the course of that many days? I'm not going to let him sit outside in 18 degree weather for sunlight, so what do you guys think?

I'm in Germantown, Md. We are hoping the power stays on, but there is a fireplace in the townhouse. Got plenty of wood. Hopefully it won't come to that. Got some food, which is going fast at all grocery stores. Just got done going to Dulles airport, Arlington cemetery, Ft. Derrick for my girls blood work. Then the commissary for her food. Tomorrow to Walter Reed for her Chemo treatment. Then back home so she can chill, and back home I go. I think these weather reporters get Bug kickbacks from the grocery stores. I'm not looking for 2-3 feet of Snow. Good luck.

I'm envious that you may get a bunch of snow. The storm passed here yesterday but only dropped about half an inch as it scooted South. I have my lights on a computer server battery backup which is good for about a day or so. These are an expensive option though and not necessary. I find it helpful for short outages but for extended outages they'll lose power too. Keeping hand warmers are a good idea. I like the 40hr warmers for reptile shipping. You can put those under a towel and keep a dragon warm for quite a while. You can hold them and share your warmth too. They tend to be fine without their lights for a few days if necessary as long as they're kept reasonably warm. They're tough animals and can get through a lot so I wouldn't worry too much.

Cooper, I don't know where you live, but here people are in the panic mode. We had some snow flurries tonight, still rush hour on the roads. OMG this storm is going to be Crazy if we get what they are saying. I still have a busy day tomorrow, taking my girlfriend for Chemo. Then I will get gas, food ( not too much) and whatever else I may crave for the weekend. My roommate picked up some super worms for Mystic. I just hope we don't have to camp in the living room by the fire. My neighbors moved to Florida a few months back, so we have extra snow shovels. Sounds like a full day or 2 of shoveling, ugh.

I live in Iowa City now. I grew up in Western New York though so as far as snow goes, unless you're talking 3-4 feet it doesn't register ;-)

Be thankful Terry15, I've been wanting snow but it looks like you may get it but i'm getting missed. 2-4 inches if we're lucky.

I didn't know you were a Western New Yorker, Coop. I did a lot of my growing up in Rochester, and then did my graduate studies in Buffalo. And now I live in Maine. So I feel your pain!

Sounds like you've got a good plan. A combination of the handwarmers and towel trick, and/or your own body heat should help see him through. And as Cooper said, the lack of UVB fora few days won't be the end of the world. He'll probably just doze under the towel for as long as the power is out and as long as he's warm.

And here I am in Central/Southern California, where it has never snowed... haha. It has been raining a bit lately, though, and we've been worried about the power cutting out. I cuddle with Gary every night and he loves it because of my body heat, so that's a nice option. Those hand warmers you got were a great idea as well :) I think your beardie will be fine

So do you guys think that I should feed regularly as well, even if the UVB is out over several days? I don't want to destroy his stomach.

I believe heat is more important than UVB for digestion. As long as he's at a reasonably warm temperature he should be able to digest. If he's too cool he'll probably just sleep and won't have an appetite. If he doesn't eat for a couple days he'll be fine.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
