Smooth dragon from non leather parents

I have a female dragon who has had at least one baby out of every clutch so far(3 clutches total so far), that has very reduced scaling. Has anyone ever heard of two non leathers producing a baby that is smooth?? She was mated with a different male last year and only had one clutch, in that clutch was one smooth baby with deformed legs. This year, she was mated with a hypo and it turns out she is het. hypo.

She has had two clutches hatch this year with 50/50 hypos and non hypos. And then, there is always a weird odd ball baby in the clutch with smooth skin. I think it is really interesting, it goes against almost everything I have read about leathers. Neither parent is smooth at all.

If the mother has leatherback in the genetic mix she will produce reduced scaled babys from time to time. There are so many non leather siblings out there there is no way to track them all....lol The mother may be a non leather sibling.

So even with no visible leathers, they can still pop up occasionally in clutches? I always thought if you bred a leather with a normal, no babies would be leather and the leather line would die there. Would both parents need the recessive leather gene to produce a baby like that? Or can the mother be the only one with it and still have an oddball occasionally? You always here percentages when people talk about genetics, but in this case, its like 1-5%.

It isnt a leatherback thats being produced. Its a reduced scaled dragon. Still going to be more rough than a leather.
