I posted this in health maybe a mod can delete it since I am moving it her.

Ok so my 3 year old bearded dragon is having an issue with his right eye. I've been out of town for the Past 6 weeks and my wife has been handling his daily needs. She said while I was gone he went through a shed, of course she bathed him once a day or so while shedding like we always try to do. Well a few days after his shed she noticed his eye was staying closed. We washed him today and rinsed his eye it seemed to have helped a bit at the time but now it's shut again. I'm wondering if he injured his eye while rubbing his head during the shed. Has anyone has an issue like this before? I will probably take him to a vet If it doesn't clear up in a few days. Anyone have a vet they can recommend in the wilmington NC or myrtle beach SC area?
Also his tank temps are 106/85
lighting is a 36" Arcadia d3+ t5
supplments repti cal with superworms
Tank is all slate tile with a wood hide

I forgot to add is there anything I can do at home to help.

Thanks in advance for your help and time

Hello,

That is too bad he is having eye trouble. It can be caused by a poor shed or an injury to the eye such as rubbing it, etc while trying to shed.
What type of solution are you using to rinse the eye out? A sterile saline solution?
You can also get some chamomile tea bags, moisten one & place it over the eye for a few minutes along with a towel to help hold any heat in. Be sure it isn't too warm though.
The chamomile has healing properties so it may help in any discomfort. Does it look infected or just cloudy?
Can you post a picture for us?
How close is the Arcadia HO light to him & is it mounted directly beside a bright white basking light?

You can check at http://www.herpvetconnection to see if any vets are listed for that area. It isn't always completely updated but may help.

Is he eating very much?

The light is tight to the front of the tank and his desert basking light is on the backside theres abou a 12 inch distance between the 2 lights. He eats well there is definitely no problem there. The light is about 16 inches from the bottom of his tank. His basking bulb is about 8 inches from his perch. I'll try to get a picture today. We have just been bathing him and rinsing his eye every other day.

Hello,

Pictures would be great!
The basking light needs to be directly beside the tube UVB to help protect the eyes.
Though at this time I don't think the lighting is the issue, but most likely due to a shedding problem.
Is it not clearing up at all?
You could get some antibiotic eye ointment to see if that helps. It sounds like it is possibly a little infected.
I am glad to hear he is eating really well, too.

Let us know how he is doing.

Hello,

His eye does look a little off. You mentioned he is eye bulging a little bit? If he is going to shed the eye area again maybe it will help out some.
Are you using any sterile saline solution drops for him? You could also try some terramycin antibiotic eye ointment for the eye to help also.
How is his appetite doing?
He is a great looking dragon, too! :D

Thanks Tracie, he is still eating well and yes I'm using sterile saline drops 2 times a day once in the morning and once at night. The terramycen I take is not otc is it? I still haven't found a vet in my area yet. He hasnt eyebulged I yet this evening. I think I'm going to turn his d3+ bulb off for a couple days or cut the hours back.

Hello,

Oh his neighbor is lovely! :D
How far is the T5 HO :D Arcadia from him, is it on top of the screen?
Did you move the basking light closer towards it?
You could definitely turn it off a bit sooner to see if that helps too.
The terramycin can sometimes be found at some pet stores or feed type of stores, etc.
Sorry you haven't found a vet yet, that can be challenging.
How is he doing today?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
