Hey, y’all! This is my first post here, hope there wasn’t a topic already for this.
Allow me to introduce my beardie Triss. She is about 5 years old, almost 20 inches, favors sweet/bell peppers and hornworms, loves a fun bath, and can’t get enough sun. She was a sort of rescue, as I adopted her from another family member a few months ago, she was on a pellet diet, had a UVA basking light, underweight, inactive and mostly dirty. Since then, she has been eating a lot of veggies and herbs, (very picky with fruits), a few pellets, canned worms, occasional live insects (will be more routine once they come with my next reptile), all dusted with calcium powder unless I give her a considerable amount of Rosemary. She now has a uvb w/uva basking bulb, a teddy, scheduled enclosure cleanings, and a soak about once a week. She also now poops on a routine of approximately every 2 days, ans has grown maybe 4 inches and gained noteworthy weight. She doesn’t have a huge space because I still live in a small house (I’m moving out once I’ve organized my studies more), but she is out and about with me about half my day most times, and I take her outside for a lot of intense sun because it is real hot where I live, and her temps are 80 for cool, 87 for warm. On an important note, I also cured her of some mild MBD that afflicted her hind legs, and she now stands properly.
My question here, though, regards her sleep schedule. Earliest times I’ve seen her awake are 4-6 in the morning for a more comfortable position or an odd dip/ drink. Then she will huddle and sleep again, or bask until she dozes. She then wakes up at around 10-11 for a hearty breakfast, eat like crazy and then laze or wait for me to take her out. We will go outside for sun 20-40 minutes and I’ll let her gape a couple times and watch the Anoles, then I will bring her inside (sometimes she will doze then), then we go to my room and she has the freedom to wander pretty much anywhere as I’ve sealed all crevices. But by 3 or 4 she will be spent, run up to me and have me make a burrow for her in my blanket, wiggle and pass out and be reluctant, but not angry, to wake up for anything until morning. And when I put her back as evening approaches, she will either go to her light or into her hide (she does this frequently more recently) and go back to sleep, though sometimes she’ll fight to stay on me. Is this sleeping routine right/normal? My family says she may just be extremely comfortable now that she is spoiled and cared for; which she was overjoyed when she became the center of my attention. I read a lot of sleeping is often a sign of age, but she is very vibrant, shed last month and is now shedding 2 spots, extremely willful, the cuddliest female I’ve ever seen, can run like the wind, and eats like a lion.
I think she has a considerable life ahead of her. But she is my first reptile (I’m actually getting my first gecko next month!), and my baby and I want to make sure this is good/normal behavior for her.
