My Cinder isn't doing too well at all.
A few weeks ago, I finally was able to get him to gain a gram...then he just started going down hill.

Cinder is about 4 months old and only 5 1/2 inches long.
He has a Reptisun 10.0 that is 4 months old. He also has a basking light. He is about 7 inches away from UVB light.
Basking spot: 110 F. Cool side: 80 F
Tank size is a 10 gallon.
I dust his crickets with Fluckers calcium powder(one meal every day) and Rep-Cal multivitamins(twice a week).
He eats crickets and phoenix worms. I also try to get him to eat mustard greens. He loves carrots, but I only feed him these once in a while, along with other fruits like mangoes and strawberries.
He takes baths about every other day, but as of lately to reduce stress, I haven't given him one in a few days. He will lap up water, so I keep him very well hydrated, letting him drink until he no longer wants anymore. Hydration isn't an issue with my sweetie.

I have tried so, so hard to make him happy. In a few weeks, I was planning on making him a vivarium because I just graduated from high school and I will have a lot of time on my hands.
I was finally getting him to eat 10 crickets a day...I know baby dragons should eat more, but ever since I got him the most he has eaten has been 12 crickets and a few phoenix worms. I have had him since he was 6 weeks old.
Gradually, he started eating less and less...some days he would only eat one cricket. I have tried my best to feed him, and finally got him eating about 5 crickets a day. Two days ago, I noticed his head shake like a little bobble head for the first time. It about gave me a heart attack. I freaked, then recognized this as a sign of calcium deficiency.
This blew me away. I have always religiously dusted his crickets, and he has the right types of lights and everything. I got him to eat a few dusted crickets, but the shaking returned the next day, so I went and bought veggie baby food and loaded it with calcium powder. I fed him some yesterday, but the shaking still happened. After I fed him, he started breathing very hard, acting as if he had a respiratory infection, but this passed...I think he just got some of the baby food in his nose. He has been super clingy - every time I take him out to wipe off his face and cuddle him, he jumps into my hair and nuzzles into my shirt collar.
Today, I got him to eat 2 ml of calcium-loaded baby food. Shaking hasn't stopped.
He is getting so skinny, it makes me cry. I have no idea what I did wrong! I have been doing every thing in my power for him.
Tomorrow, I plan to go to the petstore and try to find some liquid calcium.
I am just so confused. I wonder if this has a connection to his small size. But like I said, I have done everything...he seemed very healthy and active until now. No signs of parasites or anything (healthy poop, active).
I could really use some advice now...or even a bit of a beardie owner's own experience. Please help! If the liquid calcium dosn't help, I'm at a loss for what to do...

Hello,

Sorry about your little one.
I have a question regarding your UVB light. Do you have it placed on top of a screen to where the screen is in between your dragon & the UVB light? The Reptisun 10 is it a tube bulb or a compact/coil light? Is your basking light placed directly beside the UVB light?
Are you using a digital probe or a temp gun to measure your temperatures? If so, then your temperatures are fine then.
Can you post a picture of your tank setup for us?
Sometimes you can do everything right, & you still have problems. It could be genetic possibly. He may have been born with calcium problems which have manifested more prominently now. He hasn't grown a whole lot, either which could also be genetic, too.
If you can't find the liquid calcium at the pet store, I sell some on my reptile site online. This is my site, if you need to order some:

Let us know how Cinder is doing.

Thank you for your fast reply.
I mounted the UVB light inside his tank, and it is right beside the basking light. I am using a probe thermometer.
I will get some good pictures once I clean his tank up a bit...he splattered a bunch of baby food all over the place.
This morning, I found him asleep in the corner of this tank. I turned his lights on, and a half an hour later he still hadn't moved to his basking spot, so I picked him up and tried to get him to climb onto it. His head started shaking again. :( I have noticed that his legs haven't shook since I have started feeding him baby food, just his head.
I would give anything to see him plump, happy and grown.

It could be time for you to change the reptisun 10 tube to a new one. Has his appetite diminished any? I ask this because when we had our girls on the reptisun 10 tube, they lost their appetite when the bulb was between 4 and 4.5 months of daily use. The uvb only lasts for 6 months if you turn it off during the day when you have them out of their tanks (we take our girls outside daily for an hour or so). If you are using a tube, I suggest going to petmountain.com and purchasing a new one.

Hello,

Good, mounting the tube bulb on the inside of the tank may help right now so he can get more concentrated UVB. Can you post a picture of his tank setup for us too?
Were you able to find some liquid calcium at the pet store for him also?
How is he doing today, I hope that he has eaten something also. Keep us posted on him.

I would recommend taking your little one to an experienced reptile vet right away. In this way, you can make sure he gets all the help possible to survive. For example, he may have a heavy parasite burden or a respiratory infection (as you suggested) in addition to MBD. In any case, this sounds serious enough that immediate veterinary attention is needed.

If it is nice weather, you can take your little guy outside (e.g. in a rubbermaid container) for natural UV. This can really act as a pick-me-up for them. Just use your temp probe to make sure he doesn't get too hot and have shade available.

Best of luck and wishes for a full recovery,
Kari

Today was a very busy day for me and my family - my grandparents came over. I wasn't able to go to the pet store for liquid calcium, but its on my to-do list for tomorrow.
Cinder has seemed to get better as far as less shaking goes. He didn't quake at all when I held him or gave him baby food, which was a good sign. He ate only one cricket and about 1ml of calcium-loaded baby food...I went all out and put as much of the cal in there as I could. He didn't eat as much as yesterday, and he stopped eating earlier and started ignoring the gobs on his nose. He seems to have a bit more energy. He even jumped from my hand today as I ran warm water over his body and gave him a drink. His colors have remained very bright through this whole ordeal, which is strange.
Still no pictures yet...I plan to take some of his tank tomorrow.
I have been motivated by his slight improvement. Taking him to the vet is on my mind, I'm worried that he would be too small for tests or any kind of medicine. Money is very short for me right now...all my graduation money has gone into a car fund, but I may have to take out some of it in order to pay for a vet visit. It's hard because I don't have much in the fund, and in order to get a job and to go to college, I need a car...its just tough, but I make ends meet one way or another.

Hello,

That is good Cinder had a pretty decent day, overall. So, you didn't notice any shaking then today?
I hope you are able to find some calcium at the petstore tomorrow then. It is understandable about finances, vet visits are not cheap that is for sure.
Try to get him out in the sun for short stints to help him out. Hopefully he will start eating a little bit more real soon. At least he seemed to have a little bit more energy today & that his colors were bright as well.

Please keep us posted on him.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
