My Cinder isn't doing too well at all.
A few weeks ago, I finally was able to get him to gain a gram...then he just started going down hill.
Cinder is about 4 months old and only 5 1/2 inches long.
He has a Reptisun 10.0 that is 4 months old. He also has a basking light. He is about 7 inches away from UVB light.
Basking spot: 110 F. Cool side: 80 F
Tank size is a 10 gallon.
I dust his crickets with Fluckers calcium powder(one meal every day) and Rep-Cal multivitamins(twice a week).
He eats crickets and phoenix worms. I also try to get him to eat mustard greens. He loves carrots, but I only feed him these once in a while, along with other fruits like mangoes and strawberries.
He takes baths about every other day, but as of lately to reduce stress, I haven't given him one in a few days. He will lap up water, so I keep him very well hydrated, letting him drink until he no longer wants anymore. Hydration isn't an issue with my sweetie.
I have tried so, so hard to make him happy. In a few weeks, I was planning on making him a vivarium because I just graduated from high school and I will have a lot of time on my hands.
I was finally getting him to eat 10 crickets a day...I know baby dragons should eat more, but ever since I got him the most he has eaten has been 12 crickets and a few phoenix worms. I have had him since he was 6 weeks old.
Gradually, he started eating less and less...some days he would only eat one cricket. I have tried my best to feed him, and finally got him eating about 5 crickets a day. Two days ago, I noticed his head shake like a little bobble head for the first time. It about gave me a heart attack. I freaked, then recognized this as a sign of calcium deficiency.
This blew me away. I have always religiously dusted his crickets, and he has the right types of lights and everything. I got him to eat a few dusted crickets, but the shaking returned the next day, so I went and bought veggie baby food and loaded it with calcium powder. I fed him some yesterday, but the shaking still happened. After I fed him, he started breathing very hard, acting as if he had a respiratory infection, but this passed...I think he just got some of the baby food in his nose. He has been super clingy - every time I take him out to wipe off his face and cuddle him, he jumps into my hair and nuzzles into my shirt collar.
Today, I got him to eat 2 ml of calcium-loaded baby food. Shaking hasn't stopped.
He is getting so skinny, it makes me cry. I have no idea what I did wrong! I have been doing every thing in my power for him.
Tomorrow, I plan to go to the petstore and try to find some liquid calcium.
I am just so confused. I wonder if this has a connection to his small size. But like I said, I have done everything...he seemed very healthy and active until now. No signs of parasites or anything (healthy poop, active).
I could really use some advice now...or even a bit of a beardie owner's own experience. Please help! If the liquid calcium dosn't help, I'm at a loss for what to do...
