My beautiful Rosie came out of brumationa with a lot of running and glass dancing. I came home from work one day last week to find her sitting with her front foot turned palm up and just sitting. The skin was rubbed completely off of two toes and she is missing skin in patches all over that foot. ShE has not walked on it since.
I covered every piece of wood or brick in her viv with soft t shirt material. I took ouT anything rough that could not be covered. I am putting beta dine ointment on it and am soaking it, but it is still raw. can the skin grow back?
It hurts so much to see her in pain. I love her so much.

Make sure to keep her off any loose substrate like sand, dirt etc. And move her to tile or reptile carpet. If you have none, I'm sure even the soft matieral you are using to cover the brick and hides with will work for now. Where is your closest vet? I would call just to make sure it's not an infection. I wish you guys the best of luck!!

She is on tile and I had a piece of reptile carpet on one end for warmth that I took out. Only smooth surfaces for now. I cleaned it out good so there is nothing to stick to it. The only thing that seems to comfort her is being snuggled up in my neck. I can tell she is really in pain. There is no swelling, but it just looks raw. Wish there was a vet in our area that would see something besides dogs and cats.

Keep doing what you are doing, that sucks that there are no nearby reptile clinics. I found my local clinic by calling the closest dog ad cat vet centre and they have me an address so you could do that if she gets any worse. I've heard of some people treating the wound with mild polysporin, but I would not do that unless it's getting pretty bad. Just make sure nothing gets in it and it should heal up. :)
Best of luck!

Thank you for your reply. It does not look infected but now I can see what looks like bone at the tip of her toe. This is a toe that was half bitten off before we got her at 5 weeks old. She is two years old now, but I think all the wild running she was doing when she came out of brumation caused the scales to come off. I am worried. She is just pure joy and comfort for me. Now I am comforting her in her pain. :(

Sorry this happened to your beardie hun, I would do a couple of things. I would get some betadine and mix it with water to look like weak tea and soak her foot in it then gently pat dry and add some triple antibiotic without pain killer in it. You can also go to your local health food store and get some unpasteurized raw honey and apply that to it. Unpasturized raw honey has antibacterial and antiviral properties to it and aids in healing, possibly a bit faster than the other I mentioned. Although you will still have to keep it clean.

Thank you so much. I have been doing beta dine soaks but will try the honey too. I can at least put It on when I put her to bed. She doesn't move all night. I just want her to not be in pain. She means so much to me. I have three but Rosie is very special to me.

Poor little girl.... :( I agree with Tonja, the honey will be great on the wound, and then if you put gauze on it + thin medical tape around the " ankle " it will completely protect the foot while it's healing. Then just check it every 4-5 days. It should heal up like that.

AHBD you have taught me well. I will never forget about honey from your posts. I really appreciate it.

Well, I'm glad to share with anyone something so accessible and so effective. Most people don't realize that it's even approved for medical use in several countries including the U.K. and Australia. And Tonja, your posts are always helpful on these forums. :)

Try Manuka Honey! I ordered mine from amazon and am in the process of trying to heal a skin ailment. It's the miracle honey, praying it works miracles on my girl too.

They may over time but also they may not, it just depends on the extent of the injury and how well it heals up. One of mine, as a baby had a bad shed and he rubbed on his log and tore the scales off..he scarred over but the scales never grew back and he was fine.

Good news!!!!
The raw honey is working!
Rosie's foot is healing quickly since I started putting the honey on at night while she is asleep. The skin is definitely starting to grow back. It is not red and irritated looking any more and best of all...she is starting to walk on it again.
She is not twitching in pain anymore. :p
It is not completely healed yet, so I am still treating at night with the honey, but the difference is incredible!
I am so happy!!!! My baby girl is getting better.
Thank you so much to all of you for caring and for the great advice. I am so glad you are here! :blob5: :blob5:

That's great ! I know you're relieved to see her feeling better. :) Unpasteurized honey really is the best thing I've ever used, and it always works quickly, even with no Betadine used beforehand.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
