we gave him a
bath and messaged his belly thinking he may be impacted he dark alot of water while
bathing but never pooped :/ i read where they open there mouthes and kinds look like they are gasping but i do not think this is it.. if you can tell me how to upload some pics ill be glad to as of now there is no more sand he is on carpet and some of my sewing fabric until we can get some more carpet bc the piece we have is for a 5 gal tank and he is in a 10 gal i believe we have the thermometer and hydrometer set they are flunkers.. i also read about his tail being black.. his tail was darker at the end before his
bath and after and during seemed to be about the same color as the top of his tail and the rest of his body his temp right this min on this hot side is a little over 100 and his belly looks like it could be bloated a little bit thank yall for yalls time this really is helping! none of our pet stores around here can tell us anything and they just say to take him to the vet i have an appt for friday to take him if he does not get any better before then we have been feeding him some crickets (little ones) but he has stopped eating them he was eating meal worms but he wont eat but maybe one of those and he wont eat greens at all
Ok, 1st get to wal-mart get the accurite its cheap only $12, the thermometer and hygrometer are NOT accurate, again they can be way off in temp, some as much as 20 degrees, it may say 100 degrees, however in reality hes cooking in 121, this happens ALOT, most seem to be hotter than what the guage is displaying, so again for $12 its a cant miss!!!
2nd use paper towels or newspaper, its cheap and works the best when it comes cleaning time.
3rd dont feed them meal worms, they are very hard for beardies to digest, even when the pet store syays they are okay, they are NOT.
( there are lots of places online to order bulk feeders, alot of folks here like pheonix worms and dubia roaches, hes probably used to crickets, and those are ok too for a while, there are just more nutricious bugs available, as youll find out being a new owner, become friendly w/ ordering online, it will save you a bundle )
As far as the darkness, again this all comes down to tempurature and lighting, do you currently have a
UVB light? If so what kind?, specifically what brand?
My guess to that is lack of uvb, either not getting enough or none at all, you want to fix this ASAP as-well.
But, for tonight, remove carpet ( unless its reptile carpet ) if its home carpet, or something from your garage, dont use it, put in paper-towels, if you dont have any, use newspaper.
Do you dust your crickets with any vitamins or calcium powder? If not you should.
4th. Your going to also want a bigger enclosure ( house ), as babies grow fast, and need room, another thing is 10 gal is just not good, its very hard to get the correct temps as the space is too close, hence your cool side becoming hotter than it should, could be part of the issue too*
Also how long did you have him in the
bath? how hot was the
bath?
Just like babies or small children, use the inside of your wrist!
only slightly warmer than your body temp. some dragons like just above room temp, while others like it hotter, it all depends on him, but you will be able to tell what he likes and dislikes by his actions or lack of.
So his
bath may have been just a little too hot if he was gasping, just my opinion.
How long has he been without these lights?
If I had to guess Id put my money on his whole enclosure being to hot, and lack of UVB, also household carpet can also cause impaction!
Oh also you can use image shack @ imageshack.com or imagefrog.com to upload your pictures!
The folks who have been here longer than me, may know easier ways, but I use image shack.
