Okay so, I got my 3-4 month old beardie a few days ago. He’s pretty lively and will eat his crickets easily and quickly, and he’s always pretty fast. I made a few mistakes when I first got him because the only place to get pet supplies in this town is petco and someone gave me some bad advice (who said they owned 2).
I did do a lot of research but I really didn’t know where to begin so I missed a few things about substrate and I got the stupid walnut grounds. I think I stressed him out because this morning I took it out because but didn’t have anything else but an old hoodie I could throw out that he could use while I was at work. I plan on getting him reptile carpet but the hoodie gets smelly fast and before all of this he had pooped like 2 times on his sunning rock, and I didn’t have the time to wash it off properly with sanitizer so I wiped it off and then scrubbed it and wiped it again with the spongy side of a sponge before I left. It smelled and I couldn’t figure out why until I came home and realize there was a third poop on the side of the rock facing the wall. So I took everything out and had to throw the sweat shirt away because I was worried about it being dirty and him getting a respitory problem; I put him aside with his lamp, on his clean rock in a Landry basket with his water dish too. I have to wait until Friday to get paid so I can get him his carpet so I made something out of cardboard and made it textured because I just didn’t know what else I should do. He seemed fine but then was really sluggish when I gave him a few crickets and some greens, he didn’t catch any of them. And then I notice he had a green spot by his lip but he didn’t touch his baby kale!! I was alarmed so I examined him by taking him out but I shouldn’t because he seemed like he had enough handling and then I saw something on his top eye lid and it looked like it could be skin or something but it seems like it’s irritating his eye and making it hard to see. I am scared he’s sick. I am fairly certain I have the wrong light too. His basking side is like 95 degrees and doesn’t ever climb higher even though the light is a bit close. I don’t know what I should do, but I know if he’s still sick tomorrow I’ll plan a vet visit, I’m just really worried and I wonder if anyone has experienced this kind of thing
