My 3 month old beardie, that ive had for a month now, always runs into her hide soon after I come into the room. She won't bask or explore if im in the room. And shes in the room where I spend most of my time.

Shes fine being handled, I hand feed her everyday, but she still scurries right to her hide within a minute of me being in the room.

Should I just take the hides out and instead just add more things to climb? Its probably cold down there in the hide as well. Ive read somethings that say beardies shouldnt have hides at all but idk about that.

They really do need hides. They feel more secure but most of all it gives them the option to get out of uv. They don't always need uv all hours of the day. They know if their body had enough for a while. Maybe you can give treats at the hide entrance by hand to make her more comfortable. She will eventually get used to you. They should actually have a hide in both warm and cool end.

Ok, and that is how I have it set up right now. I'm going to get her some more things to climb anyways because she seems to love that

For a baby that is hiding when you come in it's becoming a habit and her spending too much time in there can be bad in her growth stage. Take the hide out + add basking branches as you said, she will probably jump right up on them. You can put the hide in at night when the lights go out. I raised quite a few babies and never put hides in, some tanks I'd leave a crumpled paper towel or as they got older the old half log for basking basking that was also a cave.

I do have some branches in but im going to get more.
I suppose i could try taking the hides out for a day or two and see how it goes. Ill leave his half log in there so he has some shelter from uv if he wants it.

Its weird how scared he is when he can see me. I put 2 dozen crickets in the tank a couple hours ago, he doesnt leave his hide or even look at them. I cover the front of his viv with cardboard, immediately hear sounds of a scuffle, move the cardboard 10min later and he's just basking there, happy as a clam, not one cricket left!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
