I posted not too long ago about Mumbo turning his beard black for no apparent reason, but I've finally figured it out. He turns his beard black when he's trying to get my attention to take him out of his enclosure or when he's mad at me for putting him back in his enclosure.
<br>
Yesterday, he was getting a little wild while out and about (just running around and jumping from place to place), so I decided he needed to have some chill time back in his enclosure. As soon as I put him back in, he did a few head bobs, turned his beard black, and then stared at me for over 10 minutes.
<br>
I know he likes his enclosure fine because the majority of the time when he is in there, he is the picture of contentment. The only time he gets antsy is when he sees me come in the room for an extended period of time, and then he wants me to take him out.
<br>
He's approx. 3 years old and 19 inches long. He's in a 55 gallon tank w/ an Exo Terra Sun Glow 100W basking lamp. Like I said in my previous post, he eats great and is generally a very happy guy to be around. Even when he is acting out, he will stop as soon as I handle him or as soon as I take him out. Granted I can't take him out everytime he wants to be taken out, but he still gets ample time outside of his enclosure a few times daily.
<br>
I actually think it is kind of cute that he is becoming such an attention monger, but at the same time, I don't want his behavior to escalate and get worse. While it is innocent enough now, should I try and nip it in the bud? Or is this just part of his quirky personality and I should enjoy it without worrying?
