should i get another?

So my two and a half year old beardie died today. My parents think I should get another one eventually, they think it could help me get over my previous one. My question , should I get another one after a while? Or should sell the setup and not get one.

I am so sorry your beardie passed away. Getting another one all depends on you. When I lost my first beardie I immediately cleaned her tank and put everything away. The thought of looking at her empty tank really upset me. Not even a week later I fell in love with a baby that the pet store had just got in. Having the new baby did ease the pain.

Thats a tough question for alot of reasons. Without giving any kind of details, i guess you have to ask yourself if you think you did all (most) of the right things when taking charge over an animals life. If you feel your level of responsibility and competency was at par with care then id say you should get another. But...in my opinion, its not a good idea to get another to use as a crutch and ease the pain of death. Death is a fact of life, all animals are born to know this as self preservations, humans have to learn and understand this as they develope. A bearded dragon may just be an animal but when you go out of your way to name it, to give it your time, care for it, and play with it, they will eventually not be seen as "it" anymore and youll need time to accept your loss before moving on.

Your decision is based on what you want to do. I would say to give yourself time to grieve and then go from there. Good luck with your decision.

What do you feel deep down that you'd like to do? They are all so unique so if you got another, you certainly wouldn't be trying to replace the one you had before. If you feel the need to care for & love another beardie, I would say "go for it."

I did a little reading on typical dechlorinating agents. Kind of sounds like its toxic based on what sodium thiosulfate is supposed to do and what it reacts with. I dont mean to make you feel bad and im by no means a biochemist but given the time frame theres a chance that was the cause.

I think you should get another one. As someone before said that him licking the water conditioner could have killed him. So it wasn't something more in your control (temp, lighting, feeding, etc.) that killed him, it was an accident. You could always wait until you find what you are looking for in a dragon like color or morph then get one. Not the first baby you see. Also as another tip you could get one that doesn't have the same colors or gender as your first. It will help you to move on and not always comparing your old and new dragon. You could also get a different type of reptile that uses a similar setup. Hope this helps and i dont think you should just give up owning a beardie just take your time getting a new one.

Just as I was about to reply to your replies, my brother came into my room and told me to get in the car. He never told me where we were going, we pulled into the petsmart parking lot. He told me how he loved me very Mich, that I'm his favorite sister of the three of us, and he knew Jasper meant the world to me, this meant a lot to me because he never really shows affection that much. And he bought me a beautiful fancy bearded dragon. He the best brother ever
