I think your friend is being very over the top! If you were trying to keep a crocodile in a jam jar then yes its not fair.... but does your beardie look unhappy? Animals are very easily contented. Spike sits on his log most of the day, sprawled out in the hot "sun", getting fed locusts at regular intervals, having a good run about every day and the odd bath. I reckon he's got it quite good.... i'm the one who has to go out in the freezing cold to go to work everyday! If I had his life, i'd be laughing!! Tell her to mind her own business. The only people that shouldn't own beardies or any pets are the ones that can't look after them. Any animals I have I want them to have the best possible life they can, and as long as I own them, that is what they will get!

Sometimes knowing when to just not say anything is key! There are people that no matter how much you try to explain/educate, they just don't or won't get it! Time to either agree to disagree or move on and find another friend! I perfer to associate myself with those that think similar (maybe not totally the same) but aren't so OUT THERE as many of the PETA peeps seem to be!

I do believe that some animals just aren't meant to be kept in "private" captivity though, not so much because it's cruel to them, but they aren't just meant to be kept. Lions, tigers, bears (don't say OH MY :lol, etc. I've seen many shows where people think they can tame these critters (and others) at a young age and well, it just doesn't work! However I don't see where having them in zoos, etc that can take care of them isn't so bad either!

As it's been said, I'd be curious if your friend is a "TRUE" vegan with her thoughts about animals, otherwise she's a hypocrite IMHO!

PETA peeps wouldn't be welcomed around my place as we have chicken houses (3) and those are SOOOO not in accordance with THEIR desires!

I like this statement. I've heard it on a national talk show, I won't name the name to avoid angry responses. I'm sure PETA doesn't like it, tho.


My sister-in-law has chickens and eggs. We get the small eggs from her as she sells the large ones to another person who gets $3.00 per dozen for them. These eggs are fresher than the grocery store eggs.

Wow, this reminds me of a friend I had just a few weeks ago 8D
I hadn't had direct contact from her in years, just over email and stuff, and she needed someone to pick her up from DIA [Denver International Airport] and so I drove 3 1/2 hours to get her.
I picked her up and we drove happily for an hour and a half with no disagreements. She asked what pets I had and I listed them all and she said I was a satanist and that I should let them all go in my backyard so they could survive in the wild.
I made the point that Pythons, Boas, Leo Geckos, Scorpions and bearded dragons cant survive in snowy climates and would die within a matter of hours, but she didn't listen to me and kept prattling on about how I was 'upsetting the natural balance' and how I was 'imprisoning 'God's' creatures' and that I should be the one in a cage.

I pulled over and drove onto a dirt road, stopped, unlocked the doors and put her suitcases outside. She asked what I was doing and I told her that she can walk the rest of the way. She tried to apologize but I made her get out and call a cab. I billed her the money that she owed me for gas too.
No one is a friend of mine if they have the audacity to insult me or my animals while I'm driving ;D


If this woman cant see that you are giving these animals a loving home with free food, protection from the outside elements and predators, then I would drop her as a friend :/ She seems to be one of those people who knows little to nothing about animals and that they need certain things to survive in the wild and certain biomes contain only the creatures that can survive in it. Most beardies don't even come from the wild anymore!

I would have done the same thing. Person like that is no friend of mine, so he/she/it can stretch his/hers legs and leave me alone.
I've done similar thing, because so called "friend" knew better than me about something that he never even saw in person, let alone read or heard anything about it in his/hers pathetic life. That really pis**s me off.
