no, to get anything done, you really have to threaten the higher ups with negative press, or pushing a negative community image. threaten their image/profits they'll get something done. They hate that stuff. Personally I'm calling them today because there weren't 50 worms in my 50 CT super worm cup.

i went there for some supplies to other day and saw the babies. they looked like they were a week old!

then next to them i saw a baby frilled dragon. all i could think was that someone will buy it and kill it because petsmart is going to give them all the wrong information!

Im not sure anyone would listen. I think the majority of the community doesn't see anything wrong, which is sad. I wish the news could do a story covering the mistreatment of animals in chain pet stores...but that'll never happen.

And I bought a 50 CT wax worms yesterday and there were only about 30 in the cup! They always rip me off. :angry5:

i got superworms one time and most of them were dead. i started opening all the containers and smelling them (since now i know that dead ones gives off a certain smell), and i would have the cup to an employee and tell them there were dead ones in there.

the one time i brought my adult beardie with me to pick up the worms (and see the fish, he loves seeing the fish) they tried feeding him and took our container of worms and counted to make sure we had 50!
then he started acting all 'stranger danger!' and we had to leave. lol

LOL "stranger danger"! Well at least they counted. The PetsMarts around me never count...but they do open the cups and take out any dead ones and replace them with live ones from another cup...so at least they do that.

I talked to someone at our petsmart and they told me that is how thye come. They told me they prefer to sell them larger and not get such small babies. But of course, management could put a stop to it by stopping the company from sending them to the stores so small.
I also heard from another breeder that Sandfire dragons is the one who supplies pet smart.

when i have to buy supers at my petsmart I usually open the cup and dump it onto a paper towel at their "fish" desk and count- that's right where they sell the supers from and there is usually a roll of paper towels there. I once had bought a 50 ct cup that only have like 25 in it - I brought it back and they opened up the cups and counted and gave me a new one. They were actually really nice about it.

I gotta admit that is an awesome setup that petsmart had but yeah I volunteer at petland and they had week old beardie at least they knew they couldn't sell them but still and the petland out here throws about over 500-1000 feeders a week and dosent even give it to their employees just garbage they go it's so sad what they do

They do that here too, and I've been soooooo tempted to try to find a way to help, but they don't think what they're doing is wrong.

Maybe the problem isn't entirely with management...maybe the blame should fall on the suppliers. I mean, I guess a pet store has to take what they're sent or have no animals at all. If there was a crack down at the suppliers level maybe conditions in the stores would be better. I think it goes for feeder insects too. When I worked at a PetsMart we would get in cups with half of the worms dead already, and then would have to swap out the dead ones for live ones in other cups, and sometimes end up with cups without as many as they should have. I guess the stores could always order more, but I think a lot of the blame is on the suppliers. I wish there was a way to make conditions better at that level. Is there anyway to find out which stores use which suppliers?

Next time I volunteer if they throw out more feeders when my mum picks me up I will grab the garbage bag and take it home

Yeah but anything not sold they throw out and no they have a separate bin that they keep Crix in for feeding cause they buy a 1000 at a time for all the animals and then stuff already in containers of like 25 50 75 100 crix and then they have worms and thats what they sell and anything not sold gets thrown out cause i seen the guy throwing them out and I was like I will take them and he's like not aloud or else everyone would cause he has like 20 reptiles

I wish I still had my old phone that had the picture of the beardie i saw at petsmart that was shorter than my FINGER. The poor baby had his/her eyes shut.. just laying against his/her water bowl completely motionless.

I just couldn't believe it. And I never see any crickets in their tanks either. Just pellet food.

Just.. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I wanted to sneak him in my pocket and take him home with me.

I dont think this is always true. The PetsMart I worked at fed all the animals (mammals and reptiles) out of the stores stock. Then at the end of everyday we would write out what stock we used that day for substrate/food/decor so that the people who did stock would know.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
