shipping times the good, bad, and ugly

I had one thought when I saw this post the other day, I never posted it cause I didn't want to come off wrong since I am new here or somewhat new.

i am looking for a second beardie, I want citrus and I'd prefer a german giant so I am taking my time looking around on breeders, their dragons, future matings etc and checking up their reps. The day I see the beardie I want I will nab it. Here is the thing, if the breeder I find is far away, yeah I will gladly pay for overnight shipping even if that'd be double the dragon money reason: cause I care about my soon to be member of the family.

I am sorry to say that if someone complains on the price of shipping then they don't care enough in my humble opinion and then I'd prolly not sell to them anyhow. To sacrifise the well being to save a buck? WHat happens when the dragon get sick, they will do home remedies instead of taking it to the vet, again on saving dollars? As well as the more stress you put the young animal through the bigger the risk for making the animal sick.

Just my two cents for what they are worth.

I have received 2 beardies FEd EX both were shipped from the same breeder and both were very healthy when they arrived and have been since except for a bout of pin worms.But to answer the questions:
One of my babies arrived on December 18th 2008,decent sized box as there was a beardie and a leopard gecko,each in their own glad container,styrofoam in box for insulation,paper towels in the glad containers,heat pack and newspaper to keep them from sliding around in the box(if I remember correctly) The gecko was a little touchy(stressed) but calmed down quickly,they dragon my girl Alf,was just as calm as could be,she looked at me as if to say "Are you my Mommy and are you gonna get me out of here?" She was very calm,hung out with me for a few minutes before her hydration bath and then was calm and even ate a few greens,then went crazy when my husband came home,he is HER person.

My second baby came home on OCtober 8th 2009,same packaging,heat pack,etc.........very calm and lovable right from the start and I am his person....They are both very lovable and healthy and so is my gecko.......all three have grown very well and are just gorgeous.

We ship our babies in very sturdy cardboard boxes, lined with R12 foam that we buy from a local hardware store and cut up ourselves (it is way more dense than standard styrofoam and keeps the box insulated better, not to mention, we tried standing on the box - no dragon inside of course, and it didn't collapse)boxes are all labeled Live harmless bearded dragon, babies are put in deli cups and heat/cold packs are added as needed and the entire box is stuffed with newspaper. They are shipped next day air, via ups and have had no problems. The dragons are stress free and most eat upon arrival. We only charge the shipping cost, not for the supplies.

I do have to say though, and I do not remember the breeder, or any specifics on dates, etc, as it was my mom's order, but she ordered two ball pythons, and they arrived in a Wrigley's gum box via UPS, no labels to mark what was in the box. They were in snake bags inside, without any packing material! Both of them were also infected with ticks!!! It took them months before they would eat for her.

thanks everyone for their input i really appreciate it all, i've decided to stick to my guns on the next day air policy, i agree that the welfare of my animals far exceeds the value of selling them.

I'm going to go to the packaging store this Thursday to see about bulk pricing. otherwise uline is just down the road from me. i need a local deli cup supplier. lol

I'd still like to hear your story though if anyone else wants to chime in!
