I cleaned the cage today and found 6 crickets hiding under the paper towels so I figured it was time to re-try the feeding box. Here's the thing. She normally hunts her crickets all over the cage. This time she sat there frozen for a few minutes before trying to escape.

Oh no!!! Where am I???

Let me out!!!!

If I stay very still they won't see me!

Haha, that's too funny! I love their personalities. Maybe you could keep trying and see if she gets used to it, or you could drop the crickets in her tank a couple at a time and keep an eye on them. I don't feed crickets(I REFUSE :puke: ), after having dubia I will never go back! They are easier to feed because you can leave them in a straight-sided dish and they can't climb out. Of course, I've found a few strays because Nero has to stand in his dish and eat and they crawl on him and he whips them off his tail.

Dubia are illegal here (I'm in Canada). I am in the process of ordering silk worms and starting a meal worm colony.

I am going to keep trying and see if we can get anywhere.

I understand why they are illegal, in theory, but I think it's stupid. If they can't survive here in most of the states no way are they going to breed and take over in Canada.

I'm actually visiting a friend in Canada in 2 weeks! He's super jealous of my roach colony (how many times will I ever get to say that!?). I'm going to wait until after I come home to dabble in the silkworm rearing.

Oh and I wanted to add, she's ADORABLE. :D

Haha I tried the exact same thing with my beardie and she reacted the same way. I think the new environment just freaked her out and she wouldn't eat, but I started feeding her one at a time in her tank and she would eat a few but some would get away and it's like a scavenger hunt trying to find them. So what I tried to do was I put them in a plastic solo cup(the crickets) roughly as many as I thought she could eat and put the cup in the freezer for probably 30 seconds so the cold would make them slow and lethargic. So I put them in the cage one at a time when they were slow and or not really moving woRked for me. You might have to nudge them around with your finger to show her because mine won't eat anything that doesn't move haha. Hope that works

Hello,

I feed my girl in a separate tote & it works out great. I had the same problem w/the crickets hiding in her viv. I switched my girl to a solid colored plastic tote & that works great. I tried switching her to a longer, shallower clear plastic tote like in ur picture just last wk & she would not eat in it at all. I made 2 observations, the bottom is slicker in the clear plastic tote & she couldn't move as well (too slick) & I don't think she liked being able to see thru the sides. I switched her back to the solid tote & she scarfed all her crix down. The crickets can climb up the inside of the colored tote, but I found if I put duct tape around the inside walls of the tote they can't climb above the duct tape. Also, when she was really tiny I put shelf liner in the bottom of the tote do she'd have better traction. Maybe that's part of the problem w/ur beardie.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
