Seperating Beardies I think :(

Hi all :)

Over the past 2 days my beardies have been fighting :( :( :( They have been eating a lot recently and yesterday we just expected it to be over that. But today, it happened around an hour ago, so I got Billy out and put him in a snake feeding cage and put him outside and just left him there to calm down a bit. So after 5 mins I put him back in and Lightning was just kind of lightly puffing his beard out, so I took him out.. I am thinking of putting a partician between them. But I was thinking I would put it in the cage they are in currently so both would get half. So I have a few questions..

(1: Is it just the time of year

(2: Is it OK to put the partician in the cage

(3: Will it stop.?

I really dont want to them in seperate cages because my Mam really cant afford a new cage as they are at least 80-120 euro :(

Thanks,

The rule of thumb is one dragon to one tank. How big is your current enclosure? The minimum size for one is a 40g breeder tank or 4x2x2. They need to be separated ASAP as they are already fighting and you certainly don't want to come home to a dead dragon. :(

it's confusing b/c when they are babies they seem like best friends.

but they get older and territorial. it's worse with males, but females can be just as aggressive. it won't stop.

if you partition the tank and they can still see each other they may be stressed trying to get to each other and always black-bearding. you can use a solid piece of wood for now (that they will not be able to climb over) until you can get another set up going.

I was expecting that! I see what you mean about the plywood. I don't think we will have a new set up for a while but I am thinking of asking my dad to make one... It would be much cheaper :L

Thanks a lot :)

That's cm (just looking at the picture), that tank is not big enough for 2 dragons if you split it in half - you'll need to buy another tank

I looked at the title of this thread and wondered why there was a sad face at the end of it, lol. Seperating them is a great thing to do! Your beardies will be a lot happier, and safer, that way

Thanks :) I think they will be too because they are kinda stressed around eachother and Lightning loves it when I get him out now :!: (Because Billy starts it all the time;) )

Thanks again :)

I am so happy you're going to do the responsible thing and separate them!!! It's for the safety and well being of your boys and you obviously care a great deal about them. The above posters are correct, the fighting will not stop, and you do not want an injured dragon or worse. They've become territorial and need their own space, putting up a partition for now will be fine until you can get get a new set up. I would put that partition up now to prevent any further fighting and possible injury.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
