Hi Darlene, nice to see you here. Sorry, but I have to let you know that we don't really recommend using anything in the tanks that are self-adhesive ex: shelf liner and tiles because the lights beating down on them will cause toxic fumes in the tank. We usually suggest non-adhesive shelf liner or slate tiles. Actually, what you could do is pick up some slate tiles from a place like Home Depot or Lowe's and lay them right over top of the vinyl tiles and as long as they are completely covered up, you shouldn't have any problem with fumes. If we can help any further, let us know.

Ok They're permanently glued on the floor of my 40 gal rep viv now I can cover it with tiles where the basking spot is? I saw people that used them and have no problem I'm kinda confused now so what do I do ?

Do you think that maybe you saw slate tiles instead in some tanks? Was it in the Enclosures forum here? To be safe, I would recommend that you do cover them up if you can't remove them. Beardies are quite receptive to things like fumes, wouldn't want anything to happen. Also, the slate tiles help wear their nails down and also retain the heat well too. Gee, I really didn't mean to burst your bubble, I'm sure it looks very nice.

Well, it's better to find out now than to have something happen to your beardies though, right? Suppose I or someone else had read this and didn't say anything about it.

It really is too bad, but actually the safest. You'll have to check out all the slate tiles that are available, some neat patterns and colors and they are very cheap. When you get a chance, take a look at some of the tank pics in the Enclosure forum.

Sorry I had to be the one to tell you but since this forum is all about what is best for them, I had to speak up. We have all made mistakes and are all learning new things every day. Sorry to hear that your hand is bleeding, make sure to wash it well. Let us know how you make out and what you find at Home Depot.

Geez, you've had quite a time of it. Actually, Lowe's cuts tile or you could do what we did and pick up a tile cutter, not the electric type but the hand held ones, I think it cost about $6.00. You have to cut them on the wrong side we found out or they will break unevenly. Another choice would be to get non-adhesive shelf liner from a place like Walmart, lots of colors and prints available but don't get any with holes in it because the poop would go right through it. The Duck brand comes in a big roll for about $8.00 and you can get some that is cushioned.

Hi Diamc,

Josie here, Jack's Mom,

Say this last weekend I took out the sand I was using for Jack, and replaced it with slate tiles.
But I have a 40 Gallon show tank and so the tile didn't fit right. Where did you get your hand held
tile cutter at. I want one.
Thanks
Josie

I actually got it at Lowe's where I got the tile and right across from all the tiles hanging up. If you can't find one, I'm sure the employees would be happy to find it for you.
