Scratching walls when out

I am not able to let my bd out of his viv as much as I would like but when I do he runs around the room but mostly he runs from wall to wall and scratches on ththem. He also black beards while doing this. What do you think of this? Is he unhappy running around?

Hello My male does the same thing. They are dont understand that walls are in the way and are just trying to run "through" them. He is black bearding because they are prey animals and he thinks you are scary. Not that he always thinks you are scary just at that moment that is his response.

It could also be his shadow from the light. mine chases his.

Thanks for the relplies. I never thought of those reasons. I was just worried he may hate being out but at the same time he scratches to get out.
