We adopted/rescued an adult male bearded dragon yesterday after getting our enclosure all ready, everything up to temp, bugs acquired. His name is Hodor.
His story is that he's lived in a pet shop window his whole life. He's about 2-4 years old (owners answers varied from 1-4 years old though). He's lived a large (4'x2') terrarium with two adult females (one of which is his sister from the same clutch). Owners mentioned that he keeps mating with his sister. Substrate has been sand, lights were 3-4 MVBs and 1 CHE. Baths have been shallow bowls placed in the enclosure for hours (that end up looking muddy and gross).
We came by the shop a few weeks ago just checking to see what bugs they keep on hand, planning ahead for a future dragon. The shop owner offered us the adult male for free, probably because he keeps mating with his sister (she recently laid and had nonviable eggs in the same tank). We wanted an adult bearded dragon anyways, and adopting is nice, so here we are.
So far (the last 36 hours) he's heartily eaten some bugs (superworms & reptiworms), and ate salad a few times (dandelion greens & bell pepper). He had a bath right when we brought him home, but no poop in the bath or in his enclosure so far. He's basking and energetic, appears to have all his fingers and toes. Enclosure was DIY built out of ABS and acrylic, with a tile floor, alfalfa pellet digging pit, a MVB and halogen basking light with a CHE for overnight.
I have a few questions about some marks on his head and his upper back, about his weight (does he look healthy?), and whether he's displaying stress marks. This is our first beardie, looking for some feedback. Thanks in advance!
Bath tub shot! Meet Hodor.
Marks above his eyes, could those be scars? White patch between his shoulder blades, just really thick shed or a scar? He's got thinner white patches that look like shed all over, but this patch on his back is odd.
Another angle on eye ridge marks and thick white patch on his back.
Distance shot of his body. Does his weight look good? Stance look good?
Are these stress marks?
