i still don't get why so many people are so focused on trying to make a dragon's environment like "what they would have lived in if they were wild". their natural environment is also full of predators and nasty parasites but i don't see anyone rushing out to make sure those are around at all times like they would be in the wild. it's rare for any domesticated animal to live in the same environment they would have if they were wild. what we really need to focus on what's good for them and what will give them the longest, happiest life possible.

When it comes down to it, everything loose has a risk. there are no exceptions. no one can tell you it's 100% safe, because it's not. It's just like with seat belts, you might go your whole life without wearing one and never have a problem, but people are hurt and killed all the time because they don't wear one. You can heed the warnings and go the safe route, or go for looks and hope it works out for ya.

Calm down it is a question. Response seems kind of rude. Anyways thank you guys for the input, I am not going "for looks" per my aspect anyways just don't think my BD would have grown up in the wild surrounded by carpet which is taped to a tank. OK?!

I wasn't being rude, I was just stating facts. If my answer sounded short, it's because I don't like typing out lengthy answers.

And in the wild your breaded dragon would grow to old age, they never do. The wild really isn't that great if you have to live it.

you can use tile, or as one person is using formica, looks really good almost like sand, just waiting to hear about the horrors of formica though, hope there arn't any because i might start using it

not all bds live in the desert,in fact you could agrue that some bds never spent any time on sand at all, that being said your bd and my bds are generations of captive breeding away from their natural habitat. so where they are from is irrelevant, they are from a breeder in kalamazoo. we have to simulate to the best of our ability their needs,( unfortunatly to our life styles) keeping them healthy happy and safe.

Agreed. IMO, if your want your pet to have a "natural" life, leave it in the wild.

At least someone can make good points in a "discussion forum" and not point fingers and this and that. I didn't really think of it from this perspective. Thank you.

This discussion is not about prosthetics, it's not about who is right or wrong. In fact please refer to what the original post says. See me being a smart (bad word removed by moderator)? While still asking a simple question. Anyways what I am trying to figure out is what is best for my beardie, health while still relating to what might make him happiest. Now that being said lets all take a serious gander at my name, how many posts I have made, and please realize I am just inquiring and have done nothing to jeopardize my beardie, nor do I want to make anyone here think I am an a-hole either. My beardie is still on reptile carpet and may still spend his life on reptile carpet. This is to what I am inquiring. Thank you..

Geez, calm down! I wasnt saying that to you, or anyone in particular... I was just agreeing that people in general shouldnt jeopardize their pets health so that their enclosure can look "natural". Maybe I should have said "someone" instead of "you", because I wasnt talking about any one specific.

Really cannot say smart @$$ lol @ smart butt, anyways.... I wish I could delete this post lol, moving forward please.

This is a PG-13 forum so bad language is not allowed. If you even think it shouldn't be used, best not to write it.

This thread is absolutely going nowhere. So, I'm locking it. Seems like every time the discussion of loose substrates (especially sand) comes up, the discussion gets out of hand.
I hope the OP got all the questions answered.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
