Rotting Teeth?

Can beardies teeth rot? I ask because I noticed (when my beardie had his mouth open) that the teeth on his bittom jaw were black in colour and immediately around the teeth...not so much the gums and not all the teeth were like this...only the middle ones on the bottom jaw. My beardie is a special needs beardie and has physical deformities because of MBD. I am not sure if his diet has anything to do with it or not but he is mostly on a liquid diet (baby food mixed with crushed pellet food) and he eats some greens.

Can beardie teeth rot? I cannot post a pic of his teeth as it likely will not turn out...I will try to see if I can though. If there is a problem with his teeth can it be fixed? I am thinking that this may be why he has quit eating feeders all together. If anyone has any info that would be great...just wondering if I need to get him into the vet or not?

Danielle, yes that is possible, but it is called mouth rot. I would irrigate thoroughly the mouth, and try to remove as much of the black as possible, and use soft foods, aka slurry for feeding for protein.
You may wish to have this seen by a qualified vet, and also pm Drache613 for further assistance.

Hi Danielle....... beardies can also get a build up on their teeth from the chitin shell of mealworms.
This would make them look not necessarily rotten but very dirty, especially the back teeth.
If this is the case and it's from mealworms, then it's nothing to worry about. If you want to try and brush them...go ahead. Might be a little hard to do though.

Thanks, for the replies,

What do you mean by irrigate the mouth thoroughly...what should I do this with? As far as brushing what type of brush should I try so as not to hurt the gums. If it is rot it wouldn't be from eating live foods because he has not eaten any live foods since early spring and his diet is babyfood slurries and greens now. Actually this may be why he has refused to eat solid foods...maybe it is painful for him? Okay..I ill try drache 13 and see what she thinks. Thanks again,

Danielle

I would recommend taking your beardie to a vet and have his mouth looked at, especially with it being hard to open his mouth and get a picture for us.
Better safe than sorry!

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
