Hey ya'll! My name is Cory and I am a 24 year old dude from rural Texas. I have always loved reptiles and had an anole when I was very young. Unfortunately my parents were not as fond as I was so I haven't had anything else until now when my lovely wife agreed to let me purchase a beardie. I already posted on another forum asking some advice after doing research of my own and I plan to be on this site much more as well. My beardie is named Rory and I am not sure of the age. I had planned to purchase one from a breeder but when I went in to petsmart to buy the cage and all the supplies I casually walked by and looked at their stock. There was one beardie baby by itself that looked right at me, opened it's mouth and started running back and forth at the front of the cage like, "HEY HEY HEY TAKE ME HOME GET ME OUTTA HERE!" So being the big softie I am we had it in the car and headed home 20 minutes later lol We are not sure if it's a boy or a girl yet but we're naming it Rory either way after the name my little niece calls me. So without further rambling from myself heeeeeereeee's Rory!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who can't leave the lizard in the store. I also wanted one since I was a kid, planned on getting one from a breeder, but instead brought a lizard home from petsmart when I went to get my dog food. I hope that Rory is healthy and active. I'm a little concerned about parasites in my bd, Sirrush, who also came from a petsmart. Have you noticed anything?

I haven't noticed anything. My vet says he is good to go. There is definitely a stigma about getting them from petsmart which admittedly it seems like some people have troubles with them but this particular store they seemed healthy and the lady there seemed like she cared about them. She wasn't super knowledgeable but from what she told me vs what I learned on here she seemed to take okay care of them. I looked at breeders but when I saw this guy I couldn't help it.

Just an update on Rory.

We are pretty sure it's a girl but not 100%. All the sexing articles kind of show it to be a she but I still think she's a little young to tell for certain. I guess it's been a month since we got her and she has definitely grown. She is getting a lil chunky lol Also I know she is growing because she is at least six and a half to seven inches now. I do not know how old she is. When we got her from petsmart she was definitely smaller. She has shed once since then. Does anyone know about how old she probably was? She was a tiny little thing. Anyway she is very healthy, eats crickets like a champ, occasionally eats her greens, loves bath time and loves to lick blueberry goo off my fingers. She belly dances when she sees me and loves hanging out on her fake plant, it's a fake leafy jungle vine I got at hobby lobby and hung around the inside edges of her viv. The only problem is I find her on that about as often as I do her basking spot and they are on opposite ends of the tank. She still gets her UV light hitting her though. I think she like the vines because she can spread all over it and just go limp. She is learning to poop in the bath which is very nice. I am thinking of getting some worms soon for her to try out. My wife hates crickets. My chihuahua and cat love watching her roam around her cage and I think Rory has figured out they can't get her so she milks it. The dog is just genuinely curios so we introduced them and Rory scared the dog out of the room lol The cat we are waiting until Rory is much larger because she has hunt mice before and probably thinks that Rory is the same thing so for now we lock the cat out of the bedroom and I let Rory roam around on the bed for a while.

Pics to come tomorrow.

Well I am going to have to change this threads name soon. Rory is getting a friend, and by friend I mean I am getting a nine month old male in a separate tank lol I found this on craigslist:

http://waco.craigslist.org/pet/2306535811.html

The guy had some general idea on what to do, probably given to him by petsmart or something and has taken decent care. The only issues I found in our discussions was that the cage is far too small and he is on sand. He says that he eats well, is active and according to the vet healthy. I plan on having him tested myself, moving him in to a larger enclosure the first chance I get and getting him off the sand ASAP. I am going to resell the cage to a friend of mine who wants it and use that to buy a new appropriate sized one. i will definitely have pics tomorrow!

Well we picked him up today and he is in great shape. The owners took good care of him and even asked me about getting a bigger tank as they had realized he was too big. He is around 17 inches at my best guess, I say guess because he is a wild one for sure and I couldn't get him still long enough to measure. I got really clawed when trying to move him in to his new home and currently he is in there tearing it apart. I tried to do a beardie burrito but he just freaked out. The only time he was not clawing me was when I held him close to my chest and talked very softly to him. It's just gonna take some time, love and adjustment. When I first reached for him he blackbearded lol We named him Bevo because he has a lot of what we in Texas call burnt orange and Bevo is the UT mascot. Here are some pics of him and updated one on Rory.

Well he finally calmed down and stopped tearing up the viv. He is watching my every move. They have not even seen each other yet but Rory is already arm waving in her viv, which I read is a sign of submission.

Bevo had a good first full day home. When I came in earlier and opened his viv he looked at me expectantly and I laid my arm on the bottom. He licked me once and then slowly climbed up on to it and made his way to my chest. I put him in a feeder tub with some crix and he went to town! I had put quite a few in there just to make sure he got full and he ate every single one of them. I offered him some more and he ate a few more then started clawing to get out so I picked him up and set him by the window next to my futon and he sat in front of the window for an hour at least before getting down and climbing my pants leg. He literally walked across the living room, in to the kitchen and latched on to my jeans! i have a feeling he did not get handled much but all day when he saw me he acted like he wanted me to pick him up. He let me measure him and he comes out to right about 18 inches. He seems a little on the skinny side though so I am working on fattening him up. While the new enclosures are being built he has been moved in to Rory's tank and she is residing in his old one. The vivs will be finished this weekend but in the meantime Rory has sensed him and she sits there arm waving all the time, which I was told is a sign of submission. I feel bad for her because I felt like she might be scared but she does not have any stress marks at all, she still belly dances for me and she ate just fine today.

Bevo did his first dragon cuddle tonight. I was watching Tv and he was on my lap so he crawled on to my chest, put his head in my armpit and literally "snuggled in" and passed out lol

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
