Right, I'm starting a dubia colony but am thing in the future of starting other colonies maybe lobster, discoid or lateralis roaches. I know dubia and lobster roaches make good staples but can I feed laterlis and discoid roaches to my BD?? Also maybe this is a stupid question but what eats giant hissing cockroaches?? Thanks guys. Also any decent roach websites would be a great help :)

You can feed lateralis and discoids, with the giants you might be able to feed the babies. Id go to faunaclassifieds.com and in the classifieds section underneath feed and feeders theres plent of people selling roaches on there

I chose dubia over the others because they are so much easier to work with. Lobsters climb, Turks are really fast, and discoids are slower to breed (and more expensive), need higher humidity and don't like being disturbed at all (and give off an odor). Discoids would have been my second choice. Dubia are an excellent entry-level roach.

I breed discoids, and most of the cons listed aren't exactly true. Yeah they have an odor if you scare them (mine don't seem to mind being disturbed), but its barely noticeable. They breed "slower" because they are larger, so when you consider total volume of reproduction vs quantity, they're about the same. I also don't have to do anything special for their humidity needs, just the same dish of water crystals that dubia would get. The real reason I think people would prefer dubia is that the males and females are easier to sex, as both male and female discoids have wings. Being able to tell them apart without handling them is probably a big plus for people that are a bit squeamish when it comes to handling bugs.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
