So I know one of the selling points of dubia is "no escapes."
That should be amended to "much fewer escapes than crickets, but it does happen."
Especially with adult males.
I've never had females or nymphs escape, but it doesn't seem to matter how much I escape-proof my tubs, I still have some adult males escape. They are much more panicky and active than females, and must therefore be more likely to find ways to escape. Females seem happy to just sit in the egg crates and mind their own business. But I have one tub of only adult males, probably around 600 of them, and every so often I hear them just all start running around, like some kind of secret message has been sent among them that just says "PANIC!"
Plus, they can jump. Holy crap can they jump.
This is more to rant I guess than to ask advice. I have a bag of cat food next to my roach bins which I grind up on an as-needed basis and feed to them. Well, I just opened the bag and there were two adult male roaches in the bag, dead. A few weeks ago I found a dead male roach in my bedroom. MY BEDROOM. It's lucky it was already dead or I probably would have smashed it. I found one hanging out on the lid of one of the other tubs, I found one on my curtains, I found one in a box on top of my 5-foot-tall dresser (HOW DID IT GET UP THERE?!), one night there was one running along a bookshelf in my living room, and another night I heard BZZZZZZZZZZT and one flew from SOMEWHERE and landed on my back.
How many is that? Seven? Over the past year.... that's way better than crickets (which are more like 7+ escapists a week).
But still. How are they doing it?! I have tape around the edges of all the bins and I have lids on them.... What more can I do?!
