RIP Sweet Pogo; Welcome Home Happy Go LUCKY

Has anyone used/had problems with the magic mushroom basking ledge? It attaches to the cage with magnets and can be used as a platform for basking.

There is something wrong with my beardie. I have ruled out just about everything, so now I am checking particular cage furniture. Pogo goes back to the vet on Tuesday (and I am surprised I have been able to keep her alive this long). She has serious eating problems and now she has eye problems too. No signs of respiratory infection, though - like no mouth opening, weird breathing, crusties, mucous, etc. (I use a Reptisun 10.0 T8 Tube - not coil, so that should not be the problem.) I actually turned off the UVB today to see if it would help her eyes - it seemed to help at first, but now tonight, they seem worse again. Her temps are right. I have had two reptile vets (and people here) tell me that my husbandry is fine, but I am taking her back to the vet on Tuesday with multiple stool samples to see if maybe parasites just aren't showing up in every poop, but are there. And now the eye problem, which I thought was just shedding at first but seems to be getting worse . . .

Wow . . . it hit me like a ton of bricks today when I started trying to clean out her viv and disinfect everything. I had to stop and come up here and put a memorial up. I can't stop crying. How did a little lizard do this to me? We just spent so much time together because she was so sick for so long. I don't know how I am going to do this. It helps to think of Leo helping her in beardie heaven - they can hunt dubia together and in beardie heaven you can eat bugs that are twice the size of your head, so she is eat huge dubia and superworms (she never had one, because she was too small).

Thank you, Sweetiepie. I would never have been able to make it this far without you.

RIP little Pogo

Yes, I am having a hard time keeping it together. I have been cleaning things for hours, so that I can adopt a new beardie, hopefully soon. I know he/she won't replace Pogo, but I need a reptile friend in my life.

Beautiful ! Is he/she a hypo trans leatherback ? The eyes look dark in the pic and the nails look clear. Where did you get Lucky ?

I believe he is a he, and he is a trans leatherback - his eyes freak me out a little, but I am getting used to it. If he looked too much like Pogo, it would make me sad - and I loved her eyes, so I am glad his are really different. I think one of his parents was hypo. I wasn't really looking for a super fancy dragon, but I had started talking to a local breeder about a month ago when I knew Pogo's chances for longevity were not good. The breeder is a fairly small operation, but has been doing it for many years and has good ratings - it's the family business. I contacted the breeder last night and he sent me pictures of some available dragons. SO, I met up with him tonight (I didn't want my dragon traveling through the mail). I fell in love the moment I saw this little guy in action - he has a huge personality. It was his bedtime when I got him home so I watched him explore his cage for a few minutes and then he dug himself a bed in some pieces of fleece that I gave him, buried his head and went to sleep! Now I can't wait until lights on tomorrow, so I can get to know him a little more. I just hope he actually eats. He is a strong little bugger, so I know he was eating well. The son of the breeder knows what I went through with Pogo so he showed me pics of the dragons who really like food!

Oh I'm so glad for you and you know you can ask me anything, I will always be here for you. I'm glad that telling you that Leo would be waiting for Pogo helped.

Lucky is a beautiful boy and I"m sure he has a great appetite so I hope you're ready for the amount of food a really healthy beardie can go through. He will eat up all your savings in no time! Did you find out from the breeder what his favourite bugs and salads are? You can add more, you still have the list I sent you www.beautifuldragons.com. There is the link again.

You have all the right things in the tank for him, too, which is wonderful and I am so glad you got a dragon so different from Pogo, that way she'll always be in your heart but you can have fun with your new boy. And I love having boys, wait until he gets into puberty, oh you're going to have alot of fun being bobbed at all the time, just like me

If you want to change the title of your thread, just change it when you post. Happy Go Lucky is home & RIP my sweet Pogo. How's that?

I'l be looking forward to pics once you've gotten to know each other & updates on what he's up to. He is a beauty, well handsome, then.

So, little Lucky is an oinker. He is a little shy, though. When he first woke up, I could tell he was a little stressed out. I have to move very slowly around him. After he warmed up, I put some calcium dusted dubia in a bowl and he ate them all and then looked at me like - is that it? So I gave him a few more and then some phoenix worms, until he seemed done. That was an entirely new experience for me.

He did do one jump into the glass wall of his viv which make me nervous - I don't want him to hurt himself. He has explored his cage and now he is in a corner in the shade. Not sure if that is his equivalent of hiding (he has a cave - but he is not in there). He is just hanging out in the shaded corner of the warm side. So, this is new to me - Pogo almost never went in shade. I am assuming since this is his first day with me, I should just let him be (except for feeding). But I don't want him to not digest (he basked for a little while after eating, but not a full hour).

So never mind my last post - little Lucky is running all over the place like a nutjob now. I put a stack of towels under his basking ledges since he has no problem try to climb to their underside and falling off! I also turned the hammock into a climbing ladder since he likes jumping at walls - so now he has a place to land. Will post pics later. He is rapidly getting over his shyness. I was re-arranging stuff in his room and he kept moving around the cage to watch what I was doing :)

I would like to change the thread topic as you suggested - to RIP Sweet Pogo; Welcome Home Happy Go LUCKY (or something similar) - it lets me change the subject but not the thread title.

Well I changed it but not all the Subjects changed, which is strange, maybe tomorrow it'll all show that Subject.

I'm glad he's getting to know you, doesn't look like he's going through too much relocation stress. I'd let him be during the day but snuggled him a bit at bedtime. Looks like he's going to be eating ALOT of worms, so you'd better be prepared. Healthy beardies can eat up to 100 bug a day while they growing! It's fun to have a healthy, eating dragon, isn't it. Did you put salad out for him, too? He'll probably eat all that, then expect supper, too.

I'm so happy that he's happy with you, you are going to have lots of adventures, that's for sure!

And pictures when you have a minute, too, k?

I am afraid to be happy yet. But he wanted lunch too. He started licking his lips at me, so I gave him so more worms. I have not put out a salad yet - I threw my collards, etc. away when Pogo died. I didn't know that I would be getting Lucky so soon. We are going to the market today to get more salad stuff so that I can make him a nice salad to keep in the viv during the day - there is no way I would keep bugs in the cage with him (even in a non-escape bowl), because I think he would eat all day long and get really fat!!!

It's a little hard seeing him in Pogo's cage and on her furniture. I put one of her blankets away in my safekeeping box, so that that will always be just hers. BUT he is a completely different personality. One minute he seems OK, and then if you walk toward the cage at any speed other than turtle speed, he FLIES off his ledge and goes behind something and then plays peek a boo.

He already gave me a nice healthy poop too! He IS a basking spot pooper, just like Pogo. I guess I can't ask for everything - happy, healthy and eating - I don't mind cleaning up basking ledge poop!!!

EDIT: I just have to say how psycho I am - I took a video of him eating his breakfast, and I have been watching it over and over again, because it is sooooo good to see a hunting, eating dragon.

I'm glad to hear you have a new healthy boy. It does fill a void to care for a new dragon but doesn't replace your old friends. I'm going through the same thing right now, getting used to a dragon who is a bit off the wall and eats/hunts (a ton) on his own. Such a big change from caring for a very sick dragon. I watch him from work on a webcam all day.

Lol at the webcam. Luckily I work from home most days so I can take conference calls in Lucky's room and even bring my laptop in there. I would totally do the webcam if I had to go downtown every day. I do miss Pogo, but it really helps having another dragon to care for. Especially a kooky one!

aww, don't worry about him getting fat, he's in his big growth period. And I don't believe in fat dragons unless their stomachs are dragging on the floor when they walk, that is  Don't forget, babies will eat tons of bugs a day and need to. You'll get used to the endless bugs that he'll eat. They can eat up to 100 bugs a day or sometimes more, so let him eat, it's what he needs. And he'll get used to salads, too, contact the breeder and ask what he ate when with him, so you'll know his favourites, if you want.

I loved ALL the pics, it's wonderful to see you with a healthy dragon. You helped Pogo live longer than she would have without your love and dedication, it's great to see you enjoying a healthy dragon now. Pogo will never be forgotten, you know that, right? She'll always be in your heart, just my lost ones are in my heart forever :love5:

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
