I'm very sad to say that one of our beloved Beardies passed away on Friday. We don't know why or how she died. She seemed healthy and was acting pretty normal up until she passed.
I awoke at 8am and found her in her viv with her mouth completely stuck to her food dish. I removed her from her dish and she didn't move at all. Even when she sleeps if anyone picks her up she will squirm a little and give a good tail whip. I tried placing her on her basking spot and let her warm up, just in case she was in a very deep sleep but nothing we tried to do revived her.
This was very upsetting to my kids (age 10 and 14) as it was their first Beardie and she took a shining to my 14 year old. She didn't like anyone except for him.
We are burying her in the backyard when we can all get together for her funeral on the weekend. It's been a sad last few days. I still cry when I think of her and the large amount of joy we have had with her. I still get upset when I see her empty viv even though we removed her castle, which we will be using as a grave stone. It's only fitting for our Princess. She was only 4-5 years old but at least when she was with us, she had the best care imaginable for a Beardie and she was content and possibly even happy. She was always stuck up and thought she was better than all of our other Beardies but that's what made her so special.
We do have several other Beardies to enjoy but Princess Samantha will be dearly missed. I'm sure she is up in Beardie Heaven now stomping her feet demanding her castle to bask upon. I'll never forget the way she would burp after eating her roaches or supers or her fabulous fat pancakes. We all loved her and her spunkiness and we'll never forget her.
