Last night while feeding my snakes and my beardies since they had awoke from brumation Howlin' Rex acted in his usual bearding manner then promptly vomited. It was like the dark red night time cherry syrup color. I know this because I too am sick.
About a week ago the canary next to him passed. He has been thyroidal for over a year so that was no surprise. Nor was the Owl Finch Snootch who was at least 6 possibly 8 years old. Wild Caught we believe.
Rex was close to the Canary. He used to look at him as he sung. They used to both give me their stink eyes when I'd clean cages. They were buddies and Rex bearded black at the plant in his place. He hated the plant but it was Rex so I thought nothing of it.
A couple of weeks ago I had him out showing off his gorgous color and his phenominal body type weight and all and he bearded calmed and bearded again and the kids as they ohhed and ahhed. The kids were not near any other reptiles but mine.
Then he went into brumation and slept. Every day he's be sleepingin aother part of his cage but sleeping his was. I walked in yesterday afternoon to find both he and Alisha looking at me going...food mom.
Crickets I thought. Good plan.
And last night when in feeding time he got sick. I picked it up and being ill myself I couldnt tell what it was. I was helpless at 8:30 at night for a vet and he walked away like it was nothing. He went into his corner and gave me stink eyes for my fuss. I checked him made sure he was warm enough and he even snapped at a cricket.
I said sicko bed and in the morning call the vet. He passed very close to dawn today. he was still flexible when I lifted him from the bedding. He was under his favorite rock formation where he went and gave me stinkeye.
The vet suggeted that he had an ulcer by the color of the vomit and he is going to necropsy my Howlin' Rex just to make sure I don't have some bug in my house other than the cold I am fighting. A part of me blames me. I have been ill for the past two weeks and while its progressing I have not been my usual industrious Mom cleaning feeding and watering in there the twice a day I usually do. Perhaps if I looked n more I might have seen something but...he's gone.
And I miss him.
I'm praying that Alisha doesn't leave me too... I have no idea what else to do other than clean and watch and keep up.
