Rinverae

We saw Rin at the local reptile pet shop and my 9 year old daughter fell in love with him instantly. He was just as curious about us as we were about him. This is the first picture we have of him....He was with his brother in a shared viv, and while his brother dashed away from us, Rin wanted to be held and stayed close.
On March 2, we adopted Rin into our family. We think he was around 3 months old when we we got him, although we are not exactly sure of his age, because they didn't have his hatch date.

Got the call from the vet today....bad news and semi good news.
Bad news is that his white blood cell count is SUPER high, and vet said that it's a really bad infection.

Good news is that the lower half of the tail is responding to the antibiotics and it's gone from almost black looking to a darker shade of brown than the upper tail (which is tan/yellowish). Rin is perking up, and becoming a lot more curious about his surroundings. He ran around the backyard today, trying to ditch me for some bushes. And for the past 2 months or so, he has been extremely lethargic, as if he were going into brumation, but not quite there. He has probably just felt lousy with the constant infection.

Im going to see what happens with this round of antibiotics, and there's a chance none of the tail needs to be amputated at all. Is there any downside to antibiotics, if we decide to do a second 2 week round of antibiotics? Will it effect his kidneys, etc?
